Hello all, I will be rooming with a random dude next year and would like to keep my belongings safe. This isn't due to a lack of trust but just overall caution in case somebody leaves the door unlocked. I would like a filing cabinet or drawer type thing that is lockable with either a key or combination I guess and also has the ability to be tethered with a heavy object to prevent people from lifting out of the room. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Not knowing your room set up, you can drill holes to run a cable lock to attach the filing cabinet to your bed frame or desk-basically a bulky item to slow the thief down.
You will not stop a determined thief with a crowbar, screwdriver to pry the drawers open.
Used this set up as a way to keep valuables out of sight and avoiding paranoia since one of my room mates was too lazy/forgetful to lock the door and often left the room while entertaining newly made “acquaintances”/sketchy strangers.
Don’t forget to lock your textbooks up, they are pricey, too.
I bolted mine in my closet.
