I live in New Orleans and I'm looking to major in Popular Music Performance and Music Management. I don't mean I want to major in music as in classical violinists or opera singer, I want to get my education of creating the next hit on the radio and performing in sold out tours. If that doesn't work out (which is likely) I also want to study management. The only issue is all the schools I am currently looking at are either near NY or LA. The only really great school for what I want in the South (that I can find) is Loyola. Are there any other out there that can give me what I want? I'm asking because I'm currently far away from home doing a college summer program and I'm not sure if I can shake my homesickness.

Have you tried the SuperMatch in the column on the left of this page?

It’s funny, because the first school that came to my mind was Loyola-NOLA. Why don’t you want to go there?

@woogzmama it’s not that I don’t want to go there, I was just seeing if that really is the only option

@jkeil911 yeah I did, but sadly none had exactly what I was looking for. but thank you for replying!

Perhaps look at Belmont in Nashville. A number of kids from our high school have gone there for music business/management programs, as well as performance. Great music scene there as well!

Does Miami have a program like that?

Florida State is a possibility: <a href=“Commercial Music Studio Recital - Students of Brian Gaber - Florida State University College of Music”>http://www.music.fsu.edu/Areas-of-Study/Commercial-Music

As saintfan above mentioned, I would encourage you to look into Miami. The music scene in Miami is vibrant and the Frost School of Music has many strong connections in the LA/NY/Miami, etc. music industry. Frost Dean Shelly Berg arranged and co-produced Gloria Estefan’s (UM trustee and alumna) latest album.

Both FSU and Miami are great music programs - and since you’re OOS, you’ll need to either have awesome grades in high-level classes and outstanding test scores, or be highly musically talented (made all-state in HS etc). Without those, hopefully your family can afford OOS tuition of $25K - $40K (Miami is private) per year plus room & board…best of luck!

What about Middle Tennessee State University?

Ummmm…who?

And that’s why Google was created:

I was wondering why Google was created.

I second the vote for MTSU. Music Industry major or if you can get accepted into the recording industry program. Both are top notch.
