Looking for school solutions with substantial merit - 3.3 GPA 1200 SAT D2or3 soccer

My daughter is a Junior, we live in CT, has attended catholic school since K. Undecided major, good student, trying to come up with a list of where to start. Looking for annual net cost for us to be approx $15k. Strong soccer player and is being contacted by a few coaches. Interested in smaller school size. Thank you in advance!

Here’s a link to another similar thread…hopefully folks will provide suggestions to both!

Here is also a link for the Athletic Recruiting forum. You may want to post questions about that process as well…

Start with these and run your NPC. To get a general view of costs for you, check College Navigator and hit the “net price” tab for each school. YMMV depending on merit and athletic scholarship offers.

  • Drew University
  • U of Maine at Orono -- flagship matching program
  • Agnes Scott
  • Simmons in Boston has some great merit scholarships if yo apply early. I'm not sure if it will bring you to the total you need.
  • Knox
  • Southwestern University near Austin has some great merit and it's a great school easy to get to Austin and cute historic campus. https://www.southwesternpirates.com/sports/w-soccer/index

I honestly do not know about merit possibilities. But check Flagler College in St. Augustine. Total cost of attendance for this smallLAC is bout $34,000 a year. It’s possible that they provide merit to students too. Your student can take the $5500 Direct Loan leaving about $29,000 tocover there. If your student got half of that, you would meet your price point.

I know you said smaller school…but really don’t discount Eastern CT State University. It’s not huge, it it’s a very nice campus, and with the loan would come very close to your price point.

There is not usually a lot of athletic money for soccer players (none at Div 3) so I’d focus more on the merit. There are a lot of D2 schools in NC/SC/GA/FL. Look at Belmont Abbey, Queens College (NC), Limestone.

A school not mentioned much around here but might fit your criteria is Neumann College or York College of PA. Neumann would not offer the level of soccer that a strong player is looking for to be challenged though. Chestnut Hill is a D2 that offers academic and soccer money. With merit aid you might get in your price range at these schools.

By this far into junior year many schools will already have committed their soccer money and some will have filled their commitments but there are probably many schools out there still looking for players. If a coach is genuinely interested, they should be able to do an early read and give you a good idea of what your costs will be. Your D should be actively talking to coaches. Will she be attending any of the big showcase tournaments like Jefferson Cup? If so, she needs to be emailing the coaches. The tournaments post schools along with coaches and contact info on their websites.
