Hampshire
Bard
Bennington
Marlboro
Smith (for women)

Here, I'm basically gonna take verbatim from Princeotn Review what colleges applicants also look at when applying to (though they didn't have NYU), anyway:
For Brown: Applicants also look at and often prefer:
Harvard C, Princeton U, Stanford U, Yale U
and sometimes prefer:
Amherst C, MIT, Smith College, Williams College
and rarely prefer:
Bowdoin C, Georgetown, Oberlin, Tufts

For U of Rochester, applicants also look at and often prefer:
Cornell U, SUNY-Binghamton, SUNY-Buffalo, WU in St. Louis
and sometimes prefer:
BU, NYU, SUNY-Albany, Syracuse, U of Vermont
and rarely prefer:
Franklin and Marshall

So yeah, I also have to agree w/ the previous poster of marlboro as well as the Claremont McKenna group if your looking for good LAC's in the west, and perhaps Davidson or Wellesley, hope this helps at all, though most of it was the book

yweah thanx.....here are some more specifics about these schools:

my parents don't want me too far..ie the west...nd I live in Amherst, Ma so i am not too keen on hamphsire and smith etc............................
