I’m currently attending a tier 1.5 school but not doing so well (2.9 gpa, expected to fall even more this semester) and I’m pretty unhappy socially. Im considering changing majors but I realize i might be doing so poorly because of my unhappiness. Would it be worth it to transfer to a lesser recognized, but still decent (tier 2?) college, that I’m sure I would be happier at socially, and hopefully academically? I’ve already invested 3 semesters and alot of money here, and tried changing my approach many times to try to like this school and its people but it hasn’t worked out. But I’m not sure if its worth it to stay and suffer or transfer and have a better college experience and gpa. I would like to graduate on time but I realize I may have to postpone it if necessary. If anybody has some insight, tips, advice, or anything I would greatly appreciate it because I’m really unsure of what to do
@thefreeway I think you should take some time away from school and see what you really want to do. You dont want to transfer and continue to throw away money and not do well.
A 2.9 is not the end of the world and you are not on academic probation. However, if you are not sure why you are in college or perhaps even why you are in that particular college, then you need to rethink your goals for college. Talk to people you trust about it to clarify your thoughts. it is possible that you will determine that changing schools will help or that taking a leave for a semester or two will be best for you. You might even decide that staying is the right course of action. It is possible that your current unhappiness is not due to the school at all but something that you will take with you wherever you might transfer. If this is the case, simply transferring won’t help too much.
