Hello fellow students! I'm currently a junior. And as you might have expected, I'm brutally nervous like everyone else.

For sure, I plan to apply for:
-CSU East Bay
-CSU Fullerton
-UC Santa Cruz
-UC Davis
-UC Santa Barbara
-UC San Diego

Current profile:
GPA - 3.1
SAT - 1800
EC: 3 Years of Tennis (Currently JV Singles 1), Animal Shelter volunteer, tutored elementary students at various schools, served as a volunteer instructor for teaching tennis to the visually impaired

However, here's the dilemma.. I failed my AP Biology course and AP Spanish course. Unfortunately, there's no way to retake those. I was frantically expressing my worries to my counselor, and she said that although it does look a bit bad, it wouldn't crush my chances of getting into colleges as it didn't directly interfere with my A-G requirements, which I just need chemistry and a visual arts elective to complete.

I'd prefer frank opinions and suggestions on how I can improve my chances (e.g. target for next SAT score, etc). Thank you!

If you meet your a-g requirements, you will still make it to the CSUs just fine. However, if you can retake the classes at a CC, do it if possible or it will be detrimental for your admissions to the UCs.

CSUEB - safety
CSUF - low match
UCSC - high match
Davis, SB - reaches
SD - unrealistic

You can always apply to UCR and UCM if you meet the UC eligibility cutoff which can be found on their website.

Hey, thanks! Heh, sadly my local CC stopped providing retakes for AP courses because of severe budget cuts. Anyways, I feel somewhat more relieved now. Thanks again. :)

I’m not well acquainted with the CSU(s), but I’m pretty sure you’ll most likely get into all of them if applied, though CSU Long Beach may be a reach. I had a friend that actually applied too all CSUs with just a 3.08 or so and got into all, though she decided to just attend CC. I’m assuming your GPA listed is u/w so for UCDavis you still got a chance. Possibly raise your SAT score or try taking ACT would be a good idea. Try not to fail any classes this semester or during your senior year and start working on your essays and you’ll have a chance to get into SD and SB. A year ago I had another friend who had almost the same scores as you (1600 SAT/28 ACT) and he went on to SD. Except he lacked any good EC but his essays were just amazing.

Thank hakuex! I was feeling quite depressed, but hearing things like these really gets me up and running. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make it above 2000 to make up for more failed APs and low GPA -_- Thanks again :D
