Looking to get into 1.Duke 2.Wake Forest

Hello,
Im looking to go to Duke or Wake Forest and I do want to know "my chances" in your opinion but would also like any advise on improving my chances.
So here we go,

-3.8 gpa unweighted 4.13gpa weighted
-top 10%-13/177
-12 honors classes
-3 AP classes(senior year)
my school has 2 "pathways" college university and college tech
I completed both
-Duke TIP program in middle school, 17 ACT in 7th grade
-Nominated to attend NC Governor's school
-1st place in Applied/Technical grades 9-12 county science fair(freshman year)
-only got a 1760 on SAT but i really hated it ACT was much easier for me will get scores back soon but if needed will get personal tutor until i get a 30+

Clubs
-BETA
-National Technical Honors Society
-FFA
-Foreign Language
-Deca

EC
Varsity tennis 2010 co-conference champs
-awarded most improved 2010 went from 11th seed to 3/4 seed
Community Service
-PTA thrift shop
-Habitat for Humanity
My volunteering "passion" however
-Charity golf tournament for children with muscular dystrophy(In honor of my cousin, continued after his passing)
-Crayon fundraiser in which boxes of crayons are donated to Brenner Children's Hospital where my cousin stayed until his passing

Im sure im
Duke has always been my dream and i will soon be doing an interview and i believe i can convey that

I believe its a reach for Duke but is it possible?
Wake forest is a close second and i would love to go there also

With the GPA and SAT combo Duke is a mid to high reach not a bad school to have on your reach list. Wake Forest is a safety imo for you.

i got a 29 act score
took act 200 miles from home and calculator was dead
so i was a little stressed doing all the math longhand
math was my lowest at a 26 bringing my score down from the 30s, i will be taking it again (this time with a calculator haha) feel comfortable my rescore will be in the 30s mayby as high as 33

joel93, In my opinion you should get some tutorial help ASAP, for a much better chance of raising your ACT score to at least a 32 or 33, if you want a more realistic chance at Duke. Don’t rely on your own good intentions to increase your ACT without the help of a professional. It is money well spent, in most cases…

jshain that is what i plan to do, i only have one more test date until the early decision application is due, therefore i plan on making it count with all preperations needed

Wake Forest is test optional, so that may be your better bet.

true but if i get 30+ it would be more advantageous to show that score wouldnt it?

According to Duke the results of an early decision application will be back by mid december at the latest. Wakes deadline for early decision is january 1, so if denied to Duke could i send a early decision to Wake as its a concrete 1 if Duke is unobtainable?

Yes that is possible.

I have been looking into elon does anyone have an opinion of my chances at elon
how does Elon compare to Wake Forest?

Duke might be possible with over a 32 and have lots of $.

Wake might be possible if you get over 32 or just go test optional and have lots of $.

Elon will want to know more about your volunteering, passion, and Community Service… But if you have real passion they will likely accept you and offer you $ and perhaps a fellows program if you get your ACT up.

All are great schools with very different personalities. Why not go spend a day on each campus this fall, talk to some students and attend some classes. You will want to show interest anyhow… Have fun, I bet you will do great…

Do you know what you want to study yet? That might help with a direction… If you don’t know yet - thats OK too…

im looking into studying business management/administration
money is not an issue
should i schedule a tour during the school semester or this summer , i have heard many colleges have a very different feel when there are students vs during the fall

Go when school is in session… (If your local and want to get a feel for the area and size you can go and take a look and visit again when the schools are in session).

“Showing interest” - won’t matter at Duke, will somewhat matter at Wake, and is essential at Elon.

If your local enough try and break up the visits a bit, make sure you see the business programs and try to attend a class. Try and attend something going on at school outside of the classroom and eat on campus.

Call admissions and tell them what you want and they may be able to arrange everything or just the classroom visit.

At Elon check out the Fellow’s program.

I have also seen that Davidson has a very strong economics program although they don’t have a business major
Davidson sent me something offering me a summer program last year but i was unable
anyone know of there workload (heard that it is extremely rigorous, yet also heard that MBA’s really like Davidson)
should i use my 4th school to send act too Davidson or uncw(major safety-sent them my 1760 sat, will that be adequate for uncw?)
I am only allowed 1 college day at my high school i guess i could just be absent and go take a tour?

Davidson is Great… And very hard to get into… If your serious about Davidson (If you live in NC and Davidson becomes your first choice) ask your GC to nominate you (they are allowed 1 per NC HS), Doesn’t mean you will be accepted but your app will be looked at very seriously.

No 1760 is not good enough for UNC-Wilmington, if it’s your safety…

“I guess i could just be absent and go take a tour”? -
Or of course you could always commit to spending 200K and 4 years of your life without investigating… (I would make the visits, but hay thats me)…

alright ill just pay the money and put uncw as an extra
and yea i would much rather have a few absences than spend 200k and 4 years and be unhappy lol
i think i will attend a class at davidson to see the work load of an average day
i can usually handle a good work load and do well but the 2.6 average gpa for econ kind of scares me
