Looking to transfer--need some advice

Just finished my 3rd year at a pretty competitive (not ivy) engineering school. I made alot of mistakes entering college... i went too far away from home, spent too much time partying and not enough studying. My GPA is fairly low (2.4) and im behind a few classes (withdrew from one, and failed another). My school is pretty small and only offers certain courses alternating semesters. At this point, i would have to go for at least an extra 2 semesters in order to graduate. At 50k+ per year, i just cant afford to do this.

Im hoping to get into a public school closer to home, where I can focus alot more on my studies and save alot of money.

Just a few concerns i have:
1. im interviewing next week. what do i bring up about past mistakes/regrets that id like to do over? or should i not bring that up... My goals are mainly to save money and raise my GPA. are these the kind of things they would like to hear?

is my gpa high enough to get into an engineering program? Im hoping that the competitiveness of my previous school works in my favor. I still worked pretty hard for those C's, and i feel like i have a very strong foundation.

will transferring so late work against me? Ive already completed alot of the major, and would likely need only an additional 2-3 semesters in order to graduate.

Thanks for helping me out!

Only you could answer these questions. Just show them that you’re serious and that you’ve learned from any mistakes that you’ve made. Don’t really try to BS your explanation of anything either, not wise.

What engineering program? Certainly indulge them with your accomplishments; with a 2.4, now is not a time for modesty.

Interesting question, I have no clue. They might be more likely to favor you, though, simply due to your individual circumstances.
