Looks like Pryor is headed elsewhere

Sorry, once again, BS.

Tressel is running a clean ship. Don't put this one on the OSU side of things, even with the rivalry. Sarniak may be involved(I don't know, but if it were true, why isn't he already a Buckeye, prom was LAST YEAR). And I really doubt any college coach would ever let one of their players drive a 'Vette or something similar, it would mean instant allegations and NCAA investigation.

So, quite frankly, I think you guys are pretty out there.

And no, UM isn't the 'no duh' choice. OSU (with Tressel) has been to 3 national championship games since 2000 and gotten 2 QB's into the pros, and run a spread/pro offense that let this happen. PSU is the dominant team in the state, and has gotten Robinson into the pros using a spread/pro. Oregon has gotten TONS of Qb's in to the pros(Harrington, Dixon will be, Smith, Feely, Clemens) and would have been in the championship game if it weren't for Dixon's injury.

UM does have a very strong history of getting QB's to the pros - But RichRod doesn't. Pat White and Shaun King, and King was a decade ago. And White might not be able to stay at QB.

PSU is in state, OSU goes to the title game, Oregon puts kids in the pros, why is Michigan the 'obvious choice'?

A kid drove a 'Vette to prom, big deal - over half my high school used either a limo, Escalade, Navigator, or a sports car for prom. No OSU or any other school's boosters either.

I really don't like how anytime a kid doesn't commit somewhere he is suddenly shady, stupid, and every other insult imaginable. He's good enough every coaching staff in the nation is still begging for him. And I think they are better informed than you or me. A kid is bad news when coaches back off - Devine, Lazear, many OSU players in the '90s, Willie Williams, and so on. Pryor still could go to any school in the nation, so what if it is after day 1 to sign?

DSC, I don't think anybody suggested that OSU or Tressel were involved in TP's Corvette incident. I personally agree that he runs a clean program. But Sarniak is an OSU booster. TP goes to OSU, it could open a can of worms. Remember Maurice Clarett? If he goes to PSU or Oregon, there will be no questions asked.

Although I agree that Oregon, OSU and PSU have all placed QBs in the NFL, none have close to Michigan or done so with as much consistency as Michigan. I cannot remember the last QB who started at Michigan who was not drafted. Harbaugh, Grbac, Collins, Dreisbach, Griese, Brady, Henson, Navarre and now Henne. That's 9 QBs in 20 years. Most of those got to start. I don't think any of the other three programs on his list have come close to producing as many NFL QBs in recent years. You and I both know that.

Now I agree that Michigan wasn't a "no duh" choice, but Michigan did make the most sense.

OSU may get to championship games, but when they get there, they get blown out by 2-4 TDs. Had Henne and Hart been healthy this past season, I don't see OSU beating Michigan. Besides, OSU has their starting QB returning, so TP would not get much playing time his first season.

Oregon is a decent alternative, but it is a good 6 hours flight from PA. Let us face it, his parents would not be able to make it to many of his games. And when was the last time Oregon made it to the Rose Bowl?

PSU is just not that great a program right now and there is a big ? at coach. I love Paterno, but is he still at the top of his game...and if so, for how long? And who will replace him if he retires? But I agree that it offers a lot of benefits. It is close to home. Paterno runs a clean program and the man is a class act. I respect the man more than any coach in the country.

At Michigan, he has a young coach that is known as the father of the spread offense. He is keen on turning a new page in Michigan football history and clearly wanted TP to be the cornerstone of that new page. Michigan has no QB that can compete with TP for the starting position. And Michigan is not too far from his parent's home. Michigan may not be the clear cut choice here, but it has subtle edge.

Anyway, as far as I am concerned, TP is damaged goods. If he should chose Michigan, I would be very skeptical.

I have to side with Alexander on this one. And it isn't sour grapes. I have faith that Michigan will get who it needs in there. And if Pryor chooses OSU, all the more reason to beat them.

PS: Tressel was just recently punished by the NCAA for flying players on a personal charter plane to a basketball game. No NCAA violations???

lol Tressell runs a clean ship, you want to ask Maurice about that?

Or Troy Smith, or dozens of other OSU football players, or dozens of former players from Youngstown State...

But there's no real evidence that OSU coaches and Sarniak are working together. For all we know, when they met, it was the OSU coaches telling him to back off some.

DSC, I got a good laugh out of your confidence in Tressel running a clean ship. I'm not going to get in to it on here, but I'll just leave it at that. As for this situation, I never said that there actually is foul play going on with Sarniak. That is up to interpretation. The point is that Pryor stopped liking UM not because of Sarniak and the corvette, but because of what Rodriguez said about Sarniak.

Sorry, Tressel does have class, and runs a clean ship. Self-reporting what a booster does behind his back is classy IMO. He has raised the academic standards from Katzenmoyer and Reggie Germany to now only having a max of 3 'academic risk' kids a year(I think within 10% of clearinghouse). Not exactly Stanford, but a lot better. He will suspend important players for big games(Clifford in the NC).

I realize that being at UM means that all things OSU must be despised, but I have not seen evidence that Tressel is running a dirty ship. Clarett easily qualified, I believe he even had a 3.3 and like a 24. And he didn't have a history through high school.

Zook in football, and Sampson in BBall are the 'dirty' coaches in the B10. Talk to some SEC fans. They are experts in 'questionable' activities, and think Zook is dirty, and that Tressel isn't trying hard enough. Sorry, I'll trust the experts, he hasn't done anything unbelievable recruiting wise, so I see no reason to have doubts.

And Alexandre - Yes, Michigan has very good history of putting Qb's into the NFL. Rodriguez doesn't. Only Belotti is truly good at this, and Tressel is OK. Paterno is surprisingly bad at it.

I'm pretty sure Pat White will qualify for the NFL...

Troy Smith won the Heisman and was what, a 6th rounder, now a back-up for the Ravens? Please...

DSC, I think Rodriguez' lack of success at getting QBs to the NFL has more to do with the lack of talent he could recruit at the programs where he coached and less to do with his abilty to coach and develop a QB for the NFL.

At any rate, I agree that Belotti QBs have been successful. Tressel and Paterno QBs not so much. But like I said, I think the distance will hurt Oregon. It is down to PSU and OSU and I have the feeling he will pick PSU, if only to stay closer to home and avoid problems. Michigan is a distant third or even fourth choice for him and like I said, I would be uneasy with him. Yes, his exceptional talent, coupled with coach RR's coaching style, make me wonder. I don't deny that I would be very interested in his playing for Michigan. However, the #1 recruit and QB in the land should know better than to attract attention to himself. He should know that he will be constantly scrutinized and observed. Accepting gifts from a booster and driving around in a Corvette, even if legitimate, is calling undue attention to himself. If he were smart, he would avoid any controversy for the next 3 years. Once he hits the pros, he will have a lifetime to enjoy his wealth.

I very much respect both Hoedown and Alexandre but, with all due respect, it's really difficult to classify what they are saying as anything but sour grapes.

??

Confused over here.

I thought sour grapes was speaking ill of something you didn't get to have, or were no longer a part of.

Since my criticism was of Michigan and its fandom and the media (I thought it was weird for us to make a big fuss over a single player, and believe me a big fuss appeared to be made), your calling this "sour grapes" would suggest that I'm no longer at Michigan or a part of its fan base.

Have I been fired, SBDad? Is this what you're saying? Banned from the stadium? Or, heaven forfend, not allowed to read that bastion of journalistic integrity, the Detroit Free Press?!?! OH NO LOL

Actually, next year's top QB has michigan at the top of his list. Looks like another TP, only I think we're actually in the lead for him...

2009's TERRELLE PRYOR?: Dual-threat QB Russell Shepard has U-M at the top of his list

Next year's top QB recruit has already signed with USC

He meant top dual threat QB. The guy is also the #4 player overall. Looks like he is more agile and has a better arm than Pryor. This kid is also the cousin of Eddie George.

My apologies, Hoedown. I interpreted your irritation of the fawning over Pryor as your (possibly newfound) opinion that his talents were not worthy of such adulation. If you are saying that no college football recruit is worthy of this level of attention, I would certainly agree. And as far as the Free Press, I must really be in the dark - I actually like the paper. As a service to me, where would be a better source for such information? Maybe the Every Three Weekly? I just can't find much Michigan football recruiting news in the New York Times...

mgoblog

It will mention/link to pretty much anything of relevance.

yes submachine, the link above describes the top dual-threat qb.

OK, thanks dilksy.

Yeah, SBDad--I think it's odd to have any program overly invested in the talent of one high school player. And it seems especially strange for Michigan, because I've always regarded us as a little quieter about recruiting. I mean, we might be as desperately invested in potential new talent as any other school, but we usually play it cooler. I guess the Drew Henson thing was another time we let our drooling tongues hang out in public. I didn't like that, either.

MGoBlog is indeed a good source of info; I agree with the honorable dilsky.

I don't adore any of the local papers; the Freep's continued employment of Drew Sharp is a particular vexation. I suspect the man eats a big bowl of lemons for breakfast every morning. With chapped lips.

Hehe! Drew Sharp is a piece of...errr...work.
