Looks like we're going to stanford...so let's get to know each other

Alright, so we all know through countless (and perhaps too many chance threads) that our test scores and GPA's are up there, but that information barely skims the surface of who we are as individuals. I thought it would be nice to have a thread that let us talk about ourselves in a different light. Let's get to know each other. We should talk about hobbies, interests, etc. Ill start:

Volleyball owns me; however I recently tore my ACL so I'm taking a break from it for a while...but I can't wait to get back into it. Actually, I love all sports.

I'm also really into international photography with weird angles. Travel and exotic food is what I live for. You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at me but I could probably eat three times my body weight...in one sitting. When my high metabolism wears off, I will probably be a 400 pound woman. I'm a chronic tea drinker and it dissapoints me that gum has virtually no caloric value.

What else? I dance, sing in the rain, and listen to any type of music that has a beat to it. I used to model but I quit last month because it didn't interest me. I'm into fashion but I'd rather be out doing something active or helping someone else who is in need.

One more thing: I can't wait to meet you all.

Well, hello. I am a male from southern California. My favorite thing to do is play music, specifically electric guitar. I really like progressive metal and heavy metal music. You are more likely to find me at Ozzfest than at a library, but I am always on a quest for knowledge. My goals for Stanford is to start some sort of band, or at least jam with people, cause where I live I just can't seem to find any musicians.

I also like chess, politics, and just being creative in general. I also can't wait to see what Stanford is going to be like. The change in lifestyle and academic shift is gonna be pretty cool. I will see you in September.

I think facebook works more effectively.

true that statement.

Yeah, well, I don't have Facebook. XP

Hi guys. waves I'm Anna. I'm going to be a bit older than most of you when we start in September because I actually got accepted to the class of '11 but deferred matriculation for a year. I spent the first five months of my gap year in Europe, doing some of the things that I like/do best: traveling and studying languages. I also did something that I honestly had never tried before, which was work as an au pair. It didn't work out in Madrid, then I got a new situation in London and that worked beautifully. Whew. I spent my time in Spain (the first au pair position), the UK (traveled for three weeks after six as an au pair), and Italy (where I did 10 weeks of full-immersion Italian study in Venice and then in a small town in Umbria). I also visited a friend in Spain before going home.

In addition to Italian, I speak Spanish and French fairly fluently (if I'm in practice). I'm also learning--self-studying--German because while in Europe I fell head over heels for a German rock/pop-rock band called Tokio Hotel, of whom you may or may not have heard, but if you get to know me, you'll hear a LOT about them, because I haven't felt this way about any music in four years and I am practically obsessed. :-D You know, joining the fan club, paying $25 for an import CD, nearly crying at the thought of still being in Ecuador when they come on a (still-hypothetical) tour of the States this year...

Yeah, Ecuador. That's where I am and will be until the end of May, because my family owns a house here and... yeah. :-) I'm sick now but when I'm well I'll be volunteering at an animal refuge near Cuenca, in the southern Andean part of the country.

I also love to write/b and **read, particularly historical novels. I'm currently reading Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series and am enjoying it immensely. Last autumn I devoured Dorothy Dunnett's House of Niccolo series with extreme relish. I got very excited about those books. XP

In high school I was also noted for my math and science skills.../accomplishments.../talents. Though to be perfectly honest, at my high school it didn't take all that much to be "noted" for such things. >.< I enjoy the subjects and sometimes feel that I'll go insane without math, but I'm not sure how much I'll pursue them at Stanford.

I was also involved in my high school's theater program and would like to continue acting in college, but again, I'm not sure. I may not have time, and I've never looked upon it as something I'll spend my life doing--or make a career of, even less.

I think maybe the length of this post is revealing my penchant for writing. Oops. XD

Anyway, random bits and pieces to finish up with a flourish? I'm good-humored, laid-back, level-headed, extremely fond of Bill Kaulitz* but don't think I'm going to marry him (;-D), and I love chickens. Sometimes I think I don't even want to have a career when I finish college, I just want to fall in love and marry Bil--someone and settle down and grow a garden and raise chickens. :-p
*Google him. ;-)

Oh, and I enjoy making people laugh. I don't know about you people, but I gave myself a chuckle here. X-)

Wow. I'm impressed.
I am also one of the EA acceptee of Stanford university class of 2012.
I'm from South Korea and is one of the international students.
I like to sing and dance. My favorite genres are progressive house or jazz house, and sometimes little bits of trance or electronika musics. Seems like many people here at Stanford love music, so I think we can find many things in common.

I loved biology. Not that I excel and be a cut-throat animal in the field, but I just like it without any kinds of reason. Maybe there will be, but I do not know.

I'm also a huge fan of cycling. I have a 2 year old Merida 880. It has been kind of hard to find cycling fans around me, so I will really appreciate any people loving cycling.

Anyways, hope to meet you in the fall. Hoping to see you guys soon.

Anniushka- you sound a little like my D (SCEA 2012)....she loves math and science...math especially, and theater as well....but Spanish is her only language besides English...I like the way you write: very expressive!

Isn't Ecuador having some political problems??

Bonjour everyone!

My name is Daniel, and I live about an hour and a half south of Stanford, so I've been there on numerous occassions, mainly to tour the campus, but also to watch them play football and such. I have a niche for sports and physical activities; football, soccer, basketball, running, swimming, etc.. Unfortunately, playing music is not my forte, however, I consider myself a music junkie, because I have an eclectic taste of euphonious music that I cease to listen to no matter the location. I've always wanted to learn to play the piano, but it just never happened.

I speak three languages (english, spanish, french). I love writing poetry as well.

Anyways, I'm not that interesting.
I'll be at Stanford on Admit Weekend, so if you see me don't be shy to say hi. I'll probably be wearing a hat (like always), and if I'm sporting some shorts, I'll have some pretty ripped calves (no joke). Haha...

Au-revoir! Adios! Goodbye!

Hi everyone! I'm a 16-year-old African American and Chinese girl. I enjoy traveling, viewing art and photography, and learning new things. I'm currently in a beginner's tennis and a beginner's piano class, both of which I seem not to have any natural talent in. oh well...

This summer I'll be visiting my grandparents in Beijing, China and will hopefully be able to fly back in time for the student orientation period. i'm looking forwards to seeing you all at Stanford!

I'm Chinese coming from sort of preppy-NY school though I really hate that label; I'm into skilled sports (like most Asians) like Tennis, Basketball, etc...
I'm not the party-animal type; I like to spend my weekends seeing sights or a movie, playing pick-up games rather than going to the major rave off campus.
And I do study like crazy, but I prefer to be loose and keep a low-profile.
What else? I love writing, mainly personal, memoir-ish stuff and short stories. I used to play chess and tennis competitively, now I play for enjoyment. I've been called a science/math person but I'm really more into creative writing. I love pop and rock music, but can't play. I would like to pick up guitar-playing at Stanford.
I have a facebook but I don't go on often; I even disguised my identity for some reason...my username is "Jay Zee," and I go to Fieldston.
Look forward to seeing every1 there on the 24th!

geeze there's nothing really to say about me. im boring as heck and super shy too. im not even going to admit weekend. ill just take a tour there most likely. i am lazy as heck. when i get to stanford, i will definitely try harder. to be honest, the only reason im going to this school is because im arrogant. i just want to show off for the prestige. if it weren't for the prestige, i'd be going somewhere else for sure

From Alum
Join the BAND. The LSJUMB is a oneofakind outfit. They do not march, they scatter. You will have so much fun and belong to a great outfit. You don't play an instrument. That is ok, go and play tamporine or bagpipes ore....

Go overseas one year.

Do not spend every day in the Spring on the Lake, you will regret it. Do bike to the ocean. YOU MUST get a bike.

Be prepared to be in your freshman dorm shower when (if you are a boy), the girls liberate it. Most of all, be prepared to have the best time of your life.

Hey Metallica2289, get with my son Leko from Texas when you two get out there. He's a metal/alt guitarist also and has recorded some. Hope you guyz stay focused on class!

I've JUST submitted my SIR to Stanford, which I chose over sixteen other schools, so I am one happy camper! Meeting you all shall be awesome!! :)

I plan to be an engineering major going into nanotech applications/business. I adore mango snow bubbles. I eat, sleep, study, socialize, and embarrass myself with alarming frequency. Music is a must in my life, which includes jazz, romantic and contemporary classical, a cappella, and an eclectic blob of anything that fits the moment (nujabes, vienna teng, chocolate rain, fahrenheit, ahn trio, michael buble, youtube talents, etc). I live in the Bay Area with a number of medium to large stuffed animals, such as the Turtle, the Wombat, the Shamu, the Easter Bunny, the Polar Bear, the Blue Bear, the Totoro, the Tiger, and the Pikachu. (Yes, I am a girl. Yes, I am Asian.)

I used to live in Canada and I find French to be a beautiful language. I am a perfect failure in sports. I have played online mafia and would like to try playing assassins. Some people call me the cookie monster due to my chocolate chip cookie addiction. I sing Disney songs in the shower. I have a signature signature. Secretly, I would like to write a bestselling book. I like to read xkcd.

I'm sure each of us could write an essay on either our own likes/dislikes or our first impressions of one other from college confidential and facebook. So I'll just end here with:

Go Cardinals!
