Loomis Chaffee- The Lowdown

Hey so I just got into Loomis, and I'm definitely going... I'm super excited, but I basically just want to know what its like... I know this is pretty general, but I'll try and provide some topics to start off conversation.

-How are the dorms? Are they nice? what about the showers? Which dorm
heads= best? Is it strict?
-Is the administration strict overall? Is it easy to get kicked out? Do they put
anything and everything on it?
-How is the workload? If you want to get into a good school (top tier like say
duke- just a random name), will you kill yourself to get the grades? All work,
no play?
-Is the food edible? Is it worse than you expected?
-How often do yo get off campus & do something fun?
-Is it unusual to go home once a month or so (I live 1 hr away)?
-How demanding are the athletics (esp. lacrosse (girls))- lots of running?
Is the competition in Founder's League good or bad?
-How much fun do you have?
-Is getting work done by curfew hard?
-Is it hard to stay focused and buckle down to work?

Have you go to the re-visit day ?
How you feel about the school ?

yeah i revisited about 2 weeks ago... felt great
the big thing for me was that you would walk into a class about 5 mins before the bell rang and kids would already be conversing and having a good laugh with their teachers, but when the bell rang, everyone just knew it was time to work- it was refreshing to sit in a classroom where everyone is eager to learn and hungry for more information... they even let me join in on a conversation on Lord of the Flies (which I had read earlier in the year)
i'm so excited about next year at loomis! ... i just wasn't as comfortable at hotchkiss, so i won't be attending but i can't deny it's a phenomenal school academically

I have a friend going to Loomis. He says he chose it over Taft because of the food, so it must be pretty good.

Hello!

I am a new Loomis student too! So, what was the revisit day like? I couldn't go because it was during a school week.

Kent and Loomis are huge rivals....
I hate you.......
lol, Just Joking! [=

Is Kent the Loomis Spoon story? If so, yes, they are HUGE rivals...

acc4 and Stucktoyou - my son will be a freshman this fall. He loved the revisit, as did I. He is very excited about going there in September!

We loved the school.
After the re-visit, we sent several e-mail to faculties for questions and got reply within 24 hours.
Students were friendly there. Match student did a good job, my son followed him to several classed and jointed a rehearsal.
We had chance to meet and ask questions with some boarding students about the daily life. Of course they were "selected" but not that kind of "selected" students that only show you the best part.
New science/math center is great, it will open this fall.

My daugter was accepted and waitlisted for FA. We have just been told that it doesn't look good for FA. This is a hugh disappointment as this was my daughter's first and only prep school she wanted to go to. We are not wealthy people and can't come close to the 41k a year. What is sad is that she would of brought a special athletic talent to the school and also does very well in the class room. For the post above, congrats. It is such a great place and we feel sick my duaghter cannot attent. Did any of the posters recieve FA? if so, how much %. Thanks.

Dad111....please consider reapplying next year. This happened to my son his first time applying (not Loomis) and he reapplied for the same grade the following year and got all he needed for fa.

Thanks keylyme. She was going into Soph. year anyways. I don't think she would want to go for only 2 years as she will be more into her current school by that time.

Hi Guys, I'm currently a Loomis student, if you have any questions - feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them as best I can.

:D

Welcome new Loomis Students and congratz.

bumpppppp. anything anyone has on loomis? how does everything work out with the big day student percentage?

I am a current Loomis Chaffee Student.

As a day student, I can tell you that I enjoy having a mix of boarder and day student friends. I am always welcome to stay for dinner at school and sit with my boarder friends. Additionally, I invite boarders over to my house frequently.

Compared to other schools, Loomis' "higher" day student percentage ensures that day students are not seen as a "minority." Many of my friends from other boarding schools talk about how a minimal number of day students can be adverse to a school. Loomis sets itself apart from other schools by eliminating this odd distinction between day students and boarders.
