Loomis Chaffee...?

Hi, everyone!

I was recently accepted to Loomis and I’m so psyched! I am pretty sure I want to attend, but I’m still revisiting everywhere so I can make an informed decision. While I am revisiting, I know that the information given at the information sessions is obviously biased. So I have a few questions for those who are in the know… Thanks in advance for responses!

  1. How cut-throat and competitive is Loomis? Will I be drowning in school work or will I still have time to breathe outside of school and theatre, sports, clubs, etc.

  2. Do you find the school to be clique-y? Is it very isolated based on grade/“hook”? (My school can be like that at times)

  3. How well do the students and faculty get along? I know that at my private school right now, relations between faculty and students is tense… I’m looking for a place where it’s like a family.

  4. How difficult is it to make Varsity teams?

  5. How difficult is the work at Loomis? Do you find that it’s hard to comprehend or that it’s easier to deal with? How many hours of HW do you have per night?

Thanks in advance and I’m sure other questions will pop up as the thread moves along… Thanks!

My DD will most likely be attending too… I would also love to know someone’s thoughts on beginning as a sophomore.

@dreamcatcher3 I’m in the same boat as your daughter as well… I’m going in as a repeat Sophomore.

  1. If you stay on top of your work you find yourself in perfect balance between academic, athletic, artistic, and social success. If you let one aspect of your life takeover you’ll find yourself drowning in the other two, but that is easily set right with the help of your advisors and really down to earth teachers.
  2. People generally don’t close themselves off to others. Of course, some people are natural introverts.
3)Faculty and students are sooooooops chill. There are obviously a few annoying faculty but most faculty are like on-campus parents.
  3. If you practice with the regimen and effort expected by coaches, you’ll probably be Varsity by senior year, but Freshman varsity isn’t unheard of i the least.
  4. Honestly, there are nights when I have literally no homework (due to my preparedness and access to syllabi) and nights when I have 3 - 3 1/2. Those nights are easily avoided though. If you focus when is necessary, you can fit all of your homework into study hall.
