Loomis Chaffee?

I totally agree with LCPelican09BB that Sheila Culbert, the new head of Loomis Chaffee, is making a lot of positive impact on the school. She is a great communicator: she has started a Head's Blog and gives very inspiring speeches. She is a historian by training (I believe) so she was able to understand the essence of Loomis through its history and is now building on the school's wonderful culture to make it even stronger. (Sort of reminds me of the way Obama takes inspiration from people like Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin.) I think she is a really effective leader who shows by example what it is like to be a life-long learner.

I just returned from the Parents' Weekend and am blown away by how much the teachers care about and understand each student. Academics matter but so does character development. The students who arrive with a "sense of entitlement" quickly learn to shed that attitude. The dorms have a real community feel and I feel that my kid is surrounded by the most caring people. Loomis might not be for everyone but it is perfect for my child who was looking for challenging academics, world-class teachers and a culture of respect.

Loomis was the only place I ever considered actually attending. I went into the boarding school process pretty late- I think I made interview appointments in September or October of last year.. Anyways I went into it with Hotchkiss and Taft on the brain. I learned as soon as I got there, and after talking to many alumni that Loomis war perfect for me. And it is!!

Also, just something to keep in mind:
I talked to so many boarding school alumni about where they went and how they liked it. I ultimately ended up applying and getting into both Hotchkiss and Loomis (I knew I'd go to Loomis). From Hotchkiss alumni, I heard it was more of a "pressure-cooker" environment- rather stressful. I also spoke to 9 LC alumni- One of which I met in Washington DC at a tournament?!?! When I told her I was going, she started jumping up and down telling me how amazing it was. Not one of the 9 had anything bad to say about LC. Of course, it's competitive, but kids here enjoy themselves, too.

I'M TOTALLY AGREE WITH LEXIMA !

LC is a great school !
