For anyone who is currently attending loomis or will be next year:
Hey I'll be attending loomis Chaffee next year as a freshman and couldn't be more excited! On the other hand, as I work on my clothes packing, I have no idea really what kind of clothes most of the other girls there wear..? I'm also not sure how much to bring, and how many dresses I will need to dances or sit down meals.
So here are my questions, and feel free to add anything else you think is important,

How 'preppy' are most of the girls and what do they usually wear? Can I expect to be judged by what I'm wearing the first day?
How casual do most boarders dress on weekends?
How much of each thing should I bring? (ie. 2 pairs of khakis)
How big are the closets/ dressers?
How strictly is the dress code enforced?
And one random question, I was thinking of trying out for volleyball in fall- how good are the two teams and when will tryouts take place?
Like I said, anything else you can think to add would be great, please help!

When it comes to clothes, wear what you are comfortable with. In general people are not so petty/catty as to judge you about what you wear to class. While there are certainly lots of preppy people on campus, you don’t need to feel pressured to change what you like wearing to “fit in.”

Weekends are pretty casual but, again, wear whatever you are comfortable with, nobody is going to care all that much.

We have family style dinners twice a week in the fall and spring, but there is always dress/outfit sharing within dorms so don’t feel pressured to bring like 20 dresses if you don’t actually want to. Also, dances are pretty casual in general. The only formal is Prom, so you don’t really have to worry about that.

There is definitely enough space in the closets/dressers if you bring a reasonable amount of clothes. That being said, wait until Thanksgiving to bring most of your heavier sweaters/winter clothes and swap out some of the summery/early fall things.

The dress code is enforced (a Saturday night study hall for violations) but in general you can avoid trouble by using common sense. Make sure your skirts/dresses are long enough etc. and you’ll be fine.

Tryouts for sports usually take place within the first few days of school. I don’t know that much about volleyball but I know there is Varsity and JV. Unless you’ve played a lot before most freshmen end up on JV but JV teams are always a lot of fun.

Just let me know if you have anymore questions.
