LOR for UCs

I know UCs don’t require LORs. But in one session at UCDavis, they said we could include if we want and they may refer in special cases.

Does anyone have knowledge or experience in this area? If we ask letters to teachers is it ok to just have one set for UC app, one for all UCs? Should it be for each UC that we are interested in separately?

Thanks!!!

On the UC website, 14 different criteria is listed for evaluation of your application and letters of recommendation are not mentioned. Both my sons applied to UC’s these past 2 years and all the admissions session we attended stated not to send any additional documents other than those required for the application (meaning no LOR’s, AP score reports etc…). If you are waitlisted or decide to appeal a UC decision, then they will ask for additional documentation to aid in their re-evaluation of your application, so I would then consider sending in the LOR’s.

The UCB website clearly states that LORs may be requested from a sub-group of applicants, and that you may not request to be in that sub-group, i.e. do not send LORs unless they are requested.
