Losing motivation, how do you suggest gaining it back?

I've been steadily losing motivation to do well and study hard in school. Often, as I sit and do SAT problems or homework problems, I slowly drift off and day dream and can't focus at all, and then get tired, sleepy and frustrated very easily. I also feel depressed and worn out very often, and I sometimes get the feeling that everything I'm doing is futile and hopeless. I think it is mostly due to my ailing grades; I received two B's last year in math and I got a B in physics and a B in chemistry this semester, and it's seriously ruining my motivation. I know that if I don't study it can only get worse, yet when I attempt to make plans and buckle down and put my effort into it, I just find the will isn't there and I can't focus or learn, which just ends up in more frustration. I know that many good colleges will still accept me for these grades, but I just feel like my chances at the very top, elite, prestigious ones are shot, and I shallowly (and secretly) harbor the desire to attend one of them. What should I do to regain my motivation? How can I stop feeling so negative and get back my desire to work hard?

not many ideas here, I’ve been losing motivation too. I tried setting the McDonald’s logo as my wallpaper on my computer so I wouldn’t get on here so much but It didn’t work. I suppose you could try it.

I am too. sigh
I have the senioritis.

Haha, I’ve got junior-itis. If that’s even possible.

I’ve got freshmanitis  I can’t believe i got it this early. Did y’all just get your junioritis and senioritis??

I have the junioritis too. Right now, I need to write essays(sigh)

i would go outside in the fresh air and take a run every day. if you have a park or someplace with nature nearby go there. it’s amazing what exercise and fresh air and trees can do to clear your head and just make you feel better and more energized.

haha that said i should take my own advice more

lol, I love running. :)

I’m experiencing just the opposite. My junior year grades have been my highest out of the three years and despite getting 25-30 hours of sleep from Mon-Fri every week, I feel motivated most of the time.

^ My junior grades were my highest too >< I would like the senior year teachers to go easy on me. PSHT.

Write down where you want to go in your life, beyond college. Write down your hopes and dreams… and most importantly, how you’ll get there.

I used to have freshmin-itis… Not anymore though =P I (kinda) know what I want to do with my life, where I want to go (for now), and how I want to get there. 1st trimester GPA was 3.62. Now I’m working really hard, and have a 3.88 (~97). Hopefully I can keep it up for another 3.5 years… >.<

Have clear, defined goals for your future. Tie in some education goals with your dream, and BAM! You have a reason to work hard.

that is awesome advice! thanx!

“Write down where you want to go in your life, beyond college. Write down your hopes and dreams… and most importantly, how you’ll get there.”

I’ve done this. Highschool is not important in it. Only college. I am still unmotivated. =O

I am too, but I will get motivated. I don’t know how, but i will.

No problem~ happy to help (if that was directed to me… lol)

Um… I think about “working hard today gives me a better tomorrow” if that helps. Maybe… hm… I want to be a performer in Japan, so when I feel unmotivated, I watch some fun Japanese tv shows… and I get motivated again. Maybe you can apply that to your situation? If you want to be an architect or something, maybe buy a book that has lots of pretty and beautiful buildings… something like that?

Yeah, since college is of big importance I need to improve my study skills. Now I just have to make that a little more motivating…

Once you’re a senior, forget about it. It ain’t coming back.

I just want to improve my history grade, I can’t stand it!

Trouble is, I feel like what I want to achieve and the college I want to go to is gone because of my crappy grades and that doing any more is just futile, which I know is stupid, but that’s just how I feel. Ugh. I want have that great motivation I had before. :(

You can always improve your grades =)

Get the best grades you can now, get into the best college you can with the grades you get, and then I bet you can transfer to your #1 school. Or maybe go there for masters (or more) or something.
