Lottery admissions?

My mom's been saying that she heard UCSD had a lottery system this year in which everyone who had a 3.3 to 4.0 GPA was selected off a lottery admissions.

Honestly, I don't believe it and I can't find any articles on it but I wanted to ask around to see if anyone else has heard that... she's convinced that's the only reason I got in. I don't care about proving her wrong so much as wondering where in the world someone would get an idea like this.

Thanks!

Nope. Haven’t ever of any news like that at all. The closest thing I’ve heard are analogies comparing getting into UCSD to winning a lottery lol

The only changes are that admissions are more holistic review now and they no longer require SAT II scores

I’ll just say that I HIGHLY doubt that there is ANY truth to that. Meaning no. Just no.

I have not heard of any such system.

Just curious if your parents are asian because asian parents always seem to put their kids down :P

@Andrew LOL of course.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that odd claim. UCSD (and all of the UCs) uses holistic evaluation. It does not place an applicant’s UC ID number on a little ball, toss it in a machine, and see which get spewed out first. It’s pretty tragic when a parent would be that denigrating regarding her own child’s accomplishments. Of the 60,375 freshman applicants, the likelihood you were admitted holistically is a whole lot higher than trying to win the lottery. I mean, how many winning tickets for the MegaLotto did we have on CC? I’m sorry to be perhaps the first mom to congratulate you on your acceptance at UCSD, but in my mind, you are a winner and I hope my son gets to meet you at Triton Day.
