My D and her mother went to visit friends out of state who happen to live in a college town.
While there they took advantage of the opportunity and had a tour of the campus.
Maybe a big mistake.
My D has fallen in love with the place.
I knew this was going to happen.
She has purchased school clothing and talks about the place a lot.
There is nothing wrong with the college at all.
I'm sure it's a fine school.
But (a) I have no idea yet whether my D would be accepted there, (b) I don't know what the $ situation will be for us and (c) I want het to consider other places.
I imagine that, like other teen crushes, this one will fade in time but any advice on getting her mind off this one school is always welcome.
Thanks.

i often joked that my S2 fell in love with whatever school he saw last… just keep exposing her to different types, remind her of the financial constraints etc…

If you share the college your D loved and the state in which you live, perhaps we might come up with in-state suggestions for similar schools.

I think this could be used as a real motivator, so it could turn out to be a Real Great Thing.
This could get your D to do some research and find out what it takes to qualify to get into the school, and motivate her to take the kind of classes and make EC choices that will help her get there.

I know the plurtal of anecdote is not data, but my youngest son while in Jr High visited a highly selective school with his big sister when she was looking, and I think it helped motivate him throughout HS. He did sign up for the toughest courses, he played varsity sports and starred on the Math Team, and he did get admitted. As he got closer to actually making applications, we counseled him about safety schools, in-state publics and Covering All The Bases, and he listened, visited other schools and dutifully applied to other schools, but his early school was The One.

It could work out for your daughter as well.

Good Luck!

^^^, nugraddad, that is a very interesting take. I never really thought of that. Thanks for the anecdote and ideas!

gadad, I’d rather not at this moment but I do appreciate the offer.
