I think I'm a strong candidate but does anyone have any suggestions for my future? What am I missing?

I think you have a strong chance with your test scores. Is your GPA weighted? Just focus on that more and I think you have a good shot! I’m also a junior and looking at Georgetown. Good luck!

yeah you look like you’ll definitely get in. my advice would be to go to US news and apply to the colleges around georgetown’s rank, since admission is random

@Kradzzzzz: I’m not applying to georgetown to get into a top 15 school, because college isn’t about that. It’s about going somewhere you love and preparing for what you want to do, in an environment you enjoy. I recently spent the weekend with my brother at Wash U, and although it is a great school, I would hate myself or deciding to spend 4 years there just so I could say I’m at a top 15 school.

We have daughter graduating from G’town next month and a son entering in the Fall. (Middle brother did not get in, and wound up at Fordham.) Their grades may have been a bit higher than yours, and they were “legacy” students, but otherwise your credentials are similar to theirs. You didn’t mention your SAT scores, but otherwise you look like a strong candidate, especially being from MN and with your record of community service. Georgetown truly looks for demonstrated leadership, and passion for what you do.
I would also caution, however, that everything is very competitive these days, and there’s no way to say for sure that you are the candidate that they see as a “fit” for the class they will be trying to assemble. Same goes for all the other schools I guess – our son got rejected from a boatload of seemingly lesser schools that we figured him to be a shoo-in for. (He was applying to some niche programs though.)
Based on his experience, my advice for Georgetown would be to try Early Decision (it’s non-binding) and otherwise to apply to a lot more schools than you think you need to.
Good luck!

Dear tightend81, I was accepted to Gtown in ea this year. Your stats and mine match almost exactly. I played football and swim four year, tons of community service, stud. body president. The only difference is my gpa was higher. However your test scores are greater then mine. I think that you are an extremely qualified candidate! Apply EA, it is worth it. MY BIGGEST RECOMMENDATION IS THAT YOU WRITE REALLY GOOD ESSAYS. Truly, I believe that is what made the difference on my application. Also agree with Previous post! Gtown is amazing and is where I will be attending however I applied two other ea’s because I was worried about being accept. Definitely apply to other ea’s! Good Luck!

Good advice and perspectives from every one-- I feel that you are an excellent candidate and would recommend applying early action (no downside, and it displays your strong interest in the university).

Ah but there are a few downsides to applying early, so be careful if they apply to you. They include:
• when you apply EA at GT, they do not look at ANYTHING extracurricular, at all, not even varsity sports. They consider those only during RD,
• if you are deferred EA and not admitted RD, you will not be placed on a wait list, as they assume you have waited long enough.
