[quote=AUGirl]
"1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. "

I’d think affirmative action fits under category 2. Whether it’s wrong or right, I won’t go into. But racist things can happen to whites."
Yes, racism can happen to whites, but that doesn’t equate to affirmative action being racist. Read you definition again. Category 2 refers back to the belief or policy from category 1. Affirmative action is not a policy based on the notion that blacks or other minorities are superior to whiles, or have the right to rule over whites. It is a policy meant ot mitigate the situations where historically whites have believed in their own superiority - a belief still held by many white supremacist groups.

Affirmative action is meant to mitigate a system where the way we measure achievement appears to be biased toward whites, or where whites have by virtue of their race enjoyed advantages. There are situations where this is no loger the case, and in those situations, AA should not apply, but there are other situations where the residual effects of racism still persist.
