Low ACT= Automatic rejection?

Well I got a 26 ACT. All my stats are good besides my test score. I am just bad at timed standardized tests. I am worried schools like Amherst would automatically reject me because of my score. What do you guys think? Amherst is basically my top choice school along with ND. I probably have an ultra-slim chance at both of them. Thanks.

it depends on how good your other stats are...also, have you taken the SAT? maybe you'll do better...

you can compensate for low test scores with very good grades, moreso than you can compensate for low grades with good test scores

low scores do not necessarily shut you out at amherst...you can help your case with good essays and recs and whatnot...but im assuming you already applied, sooo, good luck

Yup, I already applied. My SAT scores was actually lower than my ACT score. It was maybe lower by like 50-70 points in comparison.

Did you have your counselor explain away the fact that you are simply not a good test taker? I have heard of worse at Amherst, but the essays were awesome. It's who you are overall, not just one score that will either get you in or not. Do not despair. If your other stats and EC's are what Amherst needs this coming year, and your essays substantiate this, you have a shot - again, realize that this year they have had a record number of applicants, so some who would have been admitted in prior years won't be this year. But it all depends on what they need to fill out the class this year. Good luck.

If you are from inner city or a URM, your standardrized test doesn't matter that much. They would primarily look at your GPA and your rank in the school.

Unfortunately I am just Polish. :(

That may be good luck. There are a lot of Poles in the area, in fact, there is a good book about the Poles that emmigrated to Chicopee and the surrounding area.

sweet! I can't wait till the decisions come out. I should hear end of march

Duzo szczescia!

Heh, thanks. Jak sie masz? Ty jestes polak? Do you attend Amherst College?

Moja corka tam jest w drugim roku. Jestem polka.

According the the 2006 common data set, 32% of freshman scored between 24-29 and 4% got between 18-23. In 2005, 29% of freshman got between 24-29. So if you do get in to Amherst, your 26 will be in good company.

Wow sweet! I think only like 19-20% submit their ACT scores though only. If I get in by some miracle I will be so stoked!

granted, a significant portion of them are athletes.

yeah that's what I thought lol
