Low Gpa and Average SAT

Throughout high school i have been badly slacking off. I now have an unweighted GPA of 1.8 and Weighted GPA of 2.33. I took my AP lang exam junior year and got a 3 and took my SAT and got a 1670. I am now in the process of AP gov and AP lit and am sure i can pass the exams. Would grades senior year count for anything? and would i be able to make it into any California College at all? even lower tier ones?

I also plan on becoming a psychology major if that helps at all.

I’m sure theres some colleges in california that would accept you, but i don’t know of them as I don’t know much about California. One suggestion I will make though would be spending a year taking community college courses to get that GPA out of the way, as your SAT shows that you have the capability to do well.

If you really want to go to a four-year (although honestly I’d suggest doing CC first), search for colleges with acceptance rates around 80-90%. However, keep in mind that many require a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

I agree with @Dpenn96 and @topaz116 that a community college would be your best bet. You could really work on getting good grades and learn better study habits before venturing into a 4 year University setting. Most of the UC’s have TAG which if you follow the requirements will allow to get into a UC of choice (Not UCLA/UCB/UCSD).

Good Luck.
