Low Gpa but High Sat.. chance me please

So im a junior currently at one of the top highschools in that nation. Due to medical issues, i ended up with a 2.5 weighted gpa so far, looking to increase it a bit with a 1380 out of 1600 (740 math, 640 reading) which is fairly high for UCF from what i read. what are my chances? im an Out of state student also, and i would probably apply for the summer program at UCF instead of fall to increase my chances. Also, my ethnicity is asian so that makes me a minority at ucf?

Welcome!

Don’t count on your ethnicity to help you. Your GPA needs to be in the 3.5+ range. Also, get as many volunteer hours as you can and join extracurricular clubs/sports. Basically, the meat and potatoes for admission is SAT and GPA.

Thanks

I’m trying to get back to school, my GPA is a 3.6, my SATS are all over the place:

600 Reading
380 Math
410 Writing

Think I have a chance?

You’re GPA is good but your SAT scores need to be at least in the 500’s for Math and Reading. If you have plenty extracurricular activities and have a solid amount of service hours (100-200) you can use those to make up for lower scores (450-490s).

Your test scores are too low skeksis.Trust me I had 3 something in math too :frowning:
Try the ACT ASAP. I did much better on the math portion of it.

Yeah, anything below a 440 gets you automatically into remedial classes when you go, no matter your AP or Dual Enrollment status, so I’d bring it up to at least there, or try the ACT :P

We have found that extracurriculars and volunteer hours didn’t seem to help at all. It’s all about the GPA/SAT/ACT scores and what classes you take as a Senior. Get all the scores up to at least 500+ and with a good solid GPA and aggressive senior classes you have more of a shot. Good Luck!

Kinda hard for getting aggressive senior high school classes for me. I graduated in '97. I’ve taken some Community college courses with my lowest grade being a B, and I work. I never took my SATs when I was in HS but… ::Shrugs.:: I just need to go back to school, a real one.

kevfranchiseman, you need to get your GPA up. You have a good SAT score but GPA is a major factor in the admission process. The average GPA for those accepted to the summer term was a 3.6 while the average GPA for those accepted to the fall was a 3.8 (both unweighted I believe). But don’t stress! One of the essay topics is about how adversity has affected you and how you overcame it. Talk about your medical problem.

SkeksisGirl, you’re gonna wanna raise your SAT Math above 500. You’re fine on writing since UCF doesn’t take it. Anyone applying to UCF should have their SAT Math and Reading scores in the 500s range. I got in with a 590 Math and 550 Reading score.

Also for anybody applying, please consider the strength of the classes you take your senior year! I wanted an easy math course my senior year, so I took AP Statistics instead of Pre-Calculus. Because of that, when I applied to the Fall, I got deferred to the Summer term, even with a 4.149 weighted GPA. Course strength and SAT/ACT scores are important in the UCF application process.
