hey guys, I desperately want to go to NYU.
However, I'm not sure about my chances of really even getting in.
I'm also not sure about whether to apply to the College of Arts and Sciences or to apply to Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I want to work in International Relations and get a major in that, but I'm also interested in linguistic anthropology, as well as Music. So I'm thinking about a double major in anthropology and ir, and a minor in music. Which is all very vague and sounds like I'm all over the place for CAS, but for Gallatin I feel like it'd be perfect. I love Gallatin, but what holds me back from applying is the fact that I would get a B.A. in individualized study- which doesn't sound very promising. I'm just very confused on what to do right now.

I am also applying to:

My GPA is ridiculously low because of Mandarin and Math.
I am linguistically fluent in Mandarin but struggle with the written language. I've taken chinese since sixth grade (these courses count for high school) because I tested out of H. Reading.
I did fairly well at my middle schools with As and Bs in the class. I then proceeded to transfer to another middle school in the county, and took chinese there.
There are two different forms of written chinese-> simplified and traditional. I had learned simplified for two years at my previous middle school; at the new one they only taught in traditional. This forced me to basically have to relearn two years of a ridiculously diffculate language all the while trying to learn a third year at the same time. I also, had a taiwanese teacher which is NOT the same thing as Mandarin Chinese. The class was such a terrible environment under a terrible teacher to the point where we had the Principal supervise class everyday and cameras installed in our portable classroom. It was bad, and needless to say she was fired after our school year- too bad I had already gotten straight Cs in the class.
In high school we had a new teacher, who taught SIMPLIFIED CHINESE AND THEREFORE IT WAS POINTLESS TO ME LEARNING TRADITIONAL ALL OF THREE. Our county does not regulate how our chinese teachers teach. Of course, I struggled. I got straight Cs in this class as well. Needless to say, I quit chinese after freshman year. I had received 4 credits in the language, double what is required.

My counselor and grade-level adminisitrator are writing letters to my colleges about my experience with Mandarin just as they have to do with every other person in my class who take it.

Math- always been my worst subject, and have been saddled with terrible teachers.
I have been in regular math every school year and have struggled to get Cs.

My strengths lie in my social studies classes, I have gotten straight As in these classes and do well on my APs. This is what I wish to go into. I am still interested in foreign languages but I feel that due to my bad experience with Mandarin and my grades there, I look less competitive than others.

Any thoughts for any of my schools?
