hey so i go to a pretty competitive school in naperville, and i'm a junior. but my gpa is pretty low, its a 3.4 (weighted). i have a 30 act, and havent taken the sat yet. i got a 175 on the psat, so all around, i'm pretty average in tests.

i'm interested in the uic gppa program (cept i wont get in, 0.001% chance rofl) and was planning on nursing.
can anyone tell me whether or not the uic has an honors program for nursing, and if its any good? overall, since i'm not making it into gppa, is the regular uic med program worth a shot?

also is the loyola med program good?

ps, if u have any other recommendations, please go right ahead, i need all the help i can get :] thanks

University of Chicago =/= University of Illinois-Chicago.

UofC (that's us) is private, in Hyde Park, doesn't have nursing or a program like GPPA. UIC (that's what you're looking for) is public and on the Near West Side.

Sorry if I sound snippy! You're not the first and not the last to make this mistake. My extended family still thinks I go to UIUC :-P

A 3.4 GPA and a 30 ACT will be enough to gain enrollment at UIC. I do not know much about their individual program requirements. Whereas the GPPA program guarantees admission to certain graduate training programs at UIC, simply doing well in the course work will as well. 1 in 10 of all college graduates in the city of Chicago are graduates of UIC, and 1 in 57 of all adults. That is pretty impressive. My wife earned her PhD there.

UIC does have a GPPA program for Nursing. Nursing normally takes on 100 students per year for their BSN program. For regular admissions, you'll need a mid to high 3 GPA. Minimum requirements for the GPPA program is an ACT over 28 and class rank in the top 15%. If you go to a school which doesn't rank, there are special provisions for that.

wow so then what schools around illinois do i have a chance to get in, and have a good nursing/medical program? plus i recently heard that gppa accepts 30 people max each year, so i'm pretty raped up the butt in that.
thanks.

IWU's ACT midrange is 26-30, so it's probably a low match.

Other schools I would look into that are in Chicago?

DePaul U: Welcome to DePaul University
It doesn't look like they have a GPPA-esque program, but it would make a good safety. (ACT midrange 22-27). Also, GREAT campus, and in one of the nicest neighborhoods in Chicago. Sweet deal.

The GPPA maxes are done by program. Normally, each year, there are about 100 new GPPAers. The two biggest programs are medicine and pharmacy. You can always apply to UIC CON during your 2nd year. From what I hear, competition is brutal.
