Hi guys,
I currently am a high school student in Turkey. In Turkey education system is pretty hard compared to US. My GPA is 68% which equals to 1.3 in 4.0 base. 68% isn’t a bad GPA in my country, well actually it even is considered as good.
I will be applying to colleges in US and i wonder if they can really consider my GPA for my country/education system, or they will just wipe me off because it is low for US?
If the college your applying is a community college, it’s okay.
You should assume that the vast majority of colleges will have one or more admissions officers dedicated to international applicants. These AO’s will be well versed in the grading standards of various countries.
Each country has their own scale. You can’t just divide in 4 or whatever.
Your guidance counselor will have to explain:
-what percentage students have below 40%, 40%, 45%, 50%, 55%, 60%, 65%, 70%,more than 70% typically in your school
- how that translates for national exams, ie., if a 65 at your school typically means 70% in national exams, then your school has grade deflation (good for you), but if a 65 at your schools means odds are great you’ll get a 55 in national exams, not so good for you (you school has grade inflation).
