I did talk with my teacher a few days ago, but she’s not changing my grade.

This morning my guidance counselor called Amherst. She told me I must have misunderstood whoever I talked to, because they told her they would not rescind my admission for one C. I really don’t think I’m misremembering the conversations I had with admissions. I have a voice mail saying I would need to improve my C before coming to Amherst.

Maybe they were just trying to scare me? I’m not going to worry about this until AP exams are over.

I think many top students do get C’s in AP physics or math for example. It happens. Not everyone is equally gifted in all areas, and there are areas in which hard work alone can’t get a student through, so it’s not necessarily a sign of slacking.

Good luck to everyone.

Geez, people on this thread are so mean. Makes me glad I didn’t apply to Amherst I guess. I really don’t think you’ll get rescinded with just 1 C. I’ll likely have many Bs second semester and a few As. Hopefully that will be okay for Swarthmore. Haha.

Wow, that’s weird how that first person’s answer to you was so different from what your counselor was told! The Amherst admissions office ought to take that up at their next staff meeting and come up with a consistent response. Geesh.

Hey-- I’m kind of in the same boat, although I’m a transfer student. I recieved a C (my first C in college) for one of my final grades. What happened? Were your acceptances revoked? I’m very nervous…

I think it is unlikely to actually get rescinded for one C. A D, uh-oh. 2 Cs, could be iffy. People do get rescinded. Obviously, not something people post because of embarassment, but you can find a few instances. There are also people who get rescinded for getting in trouble with drugs, alcohol, and/or the law.

How did things work out for everyone? I busted my ass pulling off two B’s, but I somehow miraculously did it. Hope y’all did okay too.

My academic advisor and I contacted admissions, and they said that “it shouldn’t be a problem” but they were going to check and make sure. They responded that I was to send an email to the dean of transfer admission explaining the C. After I did, she sent me a nice email just telling me to send my final transcripts a.s.a.p… I guess that means I’m good? I still feel like throwing up everytime I look at that C though.

In the email I basically told her the truth: the grade was solely based on two assessments the last week of class… and it was a bad week. I briefly explained the circumstances. Normally, I would be able to track my progress and jump back on the wagon if I fell off, but I pretty much had one shot for this course. However, I stressed that I decided to respect my professor’s grading and take responsibility for the hiccup, rather than beg for an “Incomplete.”

My other grades had a VERY slight drop; I recieved an A, A-, and B+ (bringing my GPA from a 4.0 to about a 3.8)… yeah, the perfectionist in me needs to chill. There was just too much going on this semester. I wish I got this college admission stuff over with 3 years ago!

I do take comfort knowing that I walked away somewhat more knowledgable… a letter cannot reflect that. :)
