My brother is a senior at Emory University (attended all 3 years). Will my chances at emory university improve because of legacy?

bump please

This is supposedly a big thing at Emory- demonstrated interest. They try to accept people that they think will come there, so they factor in interest- did you get on the mailing list or go to their rep visit. Having family involvement is important in showing interest. I went the extra step and wrote about being on campus in one of my essays and applied for emory scholars as well. my aunt (a prof at emory… was head of a dept for a while) also wrote me a letter of rec to go in with my application. My advice is to demonstrate your personal connection with the school and use your brother being there as part of that demonstrated connection/interest.

Well, when you say “legacy” it doesn’t include your siblings. Legacy only relates to your parents or beyond (mainly your parents who have either donated or been a big part of the college which generally indicate that their children will also attend). You see a good legacy pull would be like kitkatkatie’s whose aunt teaches there. Your brother won’t pull much weight. And as for your low rank and GPA, I don’t think you should worry. Work hard on the essays and pay extra attention to portray yourself the way you are and you definitely have a chance.

Good luck! Do you live in Georgia by any chance?

[Emory Alumni Association](http://www.alumni.emory.edu/annualfund/legacy.php?section=fund&sub=programs)

It says in that link that legacy includes brothers and sister.

Well hopefully my essay will be good enough

^^don’t want to burst your bubble, but legacy kids with 800 sat’s have been rejected over the past few years; and those have been with parental and sibling legacies…Emory is most wanting to “craft their class” demographically and ethnically…that will play more into their decision, especially if you apply RD…

edit: just noticed your ethnicity on another thread…you have a good chance…
