My problem is that my SAT score was a 1980 and the next time I did worse. I got a 740 on Math, 680 Writing and 560 Reading. I SUCK at reading.

I did okay on my SAT 2's. For language I got a 780 and a 670 on USHistory.

But the thing is, I am applying as an international student because even though I have lived in the Untied States for 12 years, I am not a citizen here. Since Im not a citizen, colleges wanted me to write International. I don't know if this will help me or not, but I hope that they take that into consideration when they look at my Critical Reading Score. I also have to take the TOEFL( international students ) test to prove that I know English.

On the other hand, I have strong ECs. I have done competitive cheer for 7 years, dance for 6 years, clarinet for 4 years, marching band, and the piano. I do volunteer work here and there as well.

I am a Co-Valedictorian at my school. 1/473 and my GPA is unweight 4.0 and weighted 6.5

Im also in NHS and the President of a club.

I'm applying to NYU, USC, UCLA (bc my parents want me to. Im probably not gonna get in) ,
Cornell (i went here for summer college), BU, BC, Duke , Columbia(they take a lot of international ppl) and etc.

Do you think I have any chance of getting into at least one of these schools?

Why would they take into consideration that you’re an international when you’ve lived in the united states for 12 years? that is not an excuse…
it all depends if you are asking for financial aid as an international.

Why is it that being an international student is an admissions disadvantage? At all of the information sessions i’ve gone to (especially top universities- penn, brown, dartmouth, chicago), they brag about how many international students they have and from how many different countries. It seems to be a diversity plus.

^ At most top schools, international applicants make up about 10% of the student body; much more than 10% of the strongest applicants are international. As a result, admissions is more selective for internationals.

Im not trying to ‘‘game’’ any system. I’m just saying that I’m applying to places that take more international students.

I don’t really see why they would see me as international since Ive been living here for so long, but I called every school and they said that they would see me as a International since im not a permanent resident nor a citizen :/

I’m just concerned because my Math score and my Critical reading are so far apart, and because colleges always tell us that they want people who are talented all around. I’m just wondering if taking the TOEFL will make up a little for my low critical reading score.

1980 is a border line score for all my schools, and especially for places like Duke, its not even in range-I want to challenge myself.

Extra Info: I live in Texas, and I am Asian-American.
