Low SAT scores and Still accepted?

but i also know ppl like myself coming from one of those schools that got kids in previous years with 1300-1400 and like 93 averages where the valed and salud have like a 97. No rankings. I was top 5 percent however, 1450 SAT, which landed me into Cornell A & S, Northwestern A & S, Chicago, Rice, Duke, and JHU I DID NOT GET IN PENN ED, deferred

bball87, what do you think was your greatest strength & weakness in your entire application? (Also, what's your location, etc.?) Thanks!

biggest strength, GRADES, which were phenomenal in a verrrrry strong schedule, graduated taking 10 Aps, which was like ridiculous. I was President of a few clubs, captain of tennis team, did some research, and my personal essay was reallllllllllly strong and personal.

Weakness: i really dont know, everyone in my school was shocked that i didnt get in.

How did students from your school fare at admissions to Penn ED in the past? Thanks for the insight

my year, not one student was accepted ed. Every year before, about 3 kids were accepted early. However, the school literaly 1 mile away, had 4 kids admitted early. Me, and 2 others were deferred early. One is at columbia, the other duke, and i am at cornell. So you can see we were all qualified.

bball - Are you from NY?

anyone able to sum up the columbia ED decisions?

Sum up Columbia ED decisions: strange

sum up columbia ED decisions: gives me RD hope at Penn :)

i have a 1540 on the math/verbal sections, but a 640 on the writing. will my poor grammar scores keep me from wharton? i have fairly decent essays, and what not (so im not completly illiterate)...

how strange? i only read the first few pages, but it seemed like there were a million deferred, and those that got accepted tended to be 2200+.

I'm subpar and proud :)
at least according to some CCers

When do Cornell decisions come out?

someone said one day after us?

i second what you said 26e, columbia decisions scared the s-h-i-t out of me. Everyone accepted was like 2200+ and some 2380's were even rejected/deferred. jeez, i wish i understood how this process works...

yea, it was so scary to read those. and this thread is scary because i am right on the brink of having low scores.

recruits can get in, if it's an important sport to the school, with low scores... if you're a lightweight male rower with a 6:30 2k erg score, the coaches have said they can get someone in with a 3.3 gpa

I saw a decent number of Columbia and Dartmouth acceptees in the 2000-2100 range but definitely nothing lower than that... then there were many 2200 and 2300 rejectees... strange, as always :-/

I just hope that I have a shot cause I only have a 2020 (re-taking in January tho...)
