How negatively would less than stellar SAT IIs, (600<x<700) affect my application considering the rest would be in range? (33 ACT, solid extra curriculars, decent essay, and great teacher recs.) I guess what I am asking is how much weight is put into SAT II tests, and if I got closer to a 600 would it put a negative light on my application?

did you get into Dartmouth or what was the decision?

I don’t think anyone outside admissions really knows. Michelle Hernandez says that D used the Academic Index, which takes SATIIs into account, doesn’t she? Whether they use it now is anyone’s guess, but if you are wondering how you stack up, there is an AI calculator on the CC web site.

Obviously, given the figures, D pays attention to test scores. With a 33 SAT–solid, but not stellar–and low SATIIs, your test scores would not be your strong point. They will get many apps from kids with better scores. I suppose if you have 5s on the APs corresponding to those SATIIs it would help. If not, the question would be whether your school has serious grade inflation or just doesn’t prepare students very well. That is what the scores are good for: comparing students to a set standard across multiple schools.

The question is, does the rest of your application stand out.

My school is more towards the low income side, meaning we really don’t get prepared that well. And because I do live in Mississippi, we are very ACT prone. Most of my classmates would really never consider taking the SAT, if fact, I had to drive an hour to take my SATIIs. I have 4s on the two AP tests I have taken and 1 of them was self study. Our school DEFINITELY has inflated grades, but at least I am ranked number one, so mine is technically the least inflated. :)
