Lower division help! I really want to transfer BUT....

Starting in August, I will be attending Liberty University as a freshman. After this school year ends I would like to go to another school but there are almost no schools that have the major psychology and minors photography & japanese for a lower division transfer. :(
I'm really stressing right now and it's not even my sophomore year yet. I'm trying to find a school in California, or even Ohio because I do NOT want to go to Liberty University for another year. I'm searching now so I can figure out all of the transfering information and so that I can hopefully visit the school over winter break.

If you know anything, please share any information you have.

Thank you so much! I'm grateful! ^-^

So you haven’t even started yet and you already know you don’t want to be there…? If there was just some situation where you couldn’t go straight into another university then I understand, it happens to a lot of us.

The best thing you can do is narrow down the list of universities that you want to go to, take classes that will transfer to those universities, and keep good grades. I didn’t know where I wanted to transfer at first, so I ended up taking classes that didn’t really matter much my first and second semester, and in-between my second semester I decided I wanted to go to USC. That messed me up from being able to transfer after one year, so now I am taking the other recommended courses to transfer next fall. Since you are just starting then you can try to find out where you want to go, and take classes that are important for transferring to those places. Psychology shouldn’t be as hard to transfer though, so you should be okay if you try.

Yup, my other minor isn’t offered at this school, but I had to go here for my first year because of my parents, so i’m sure I don’t want to continue after this year haha.

Thanks for the help and for telling me about your experience! I’m looking at all sorts of universities now.

If there are decent community colleges in your area, they may be less expensive and have better pre-transfer advisory services, since it is expected that some students at community colleges are preparing to transfer to four year schools.

Ohio State seems like it might be a good option to consider:

-Psychology major: <a href=“Advising | College of Arts and Sciences”>Advising | College of Arts and Sciences;
-Minors in Studio Art (seems to give the option of taking photography courses) and Japanese <a href=“Advising | College of Arts and Sciences”>Advising | College of Arts and Sciences;

General advice : try to get as many of your major prereqs and gen ed requirements ( and foreign lanquage requirements) completed as possible, whether you are at Liberty or at a cc as ucbalumnus suggested above.

Last tip: Do you live in VA? If so, don’t forget that out-of-state tuition can be very expensive. Hope this helps.

Hmm, I didn’t really consider a community college because I was so set on a university, i’ll check into it!
Thanks!

Thanks a bunch for the links and information!
I actually live in Georgia haha. You’re certainly right about expensive out-of-state tuition.
I’ll check out what this school has to offer.

Georgia public universities have transfer credit equivalency listings on their web sites. For example:

https://www.admissions.uga.edu/transferequiv/</a>
https://oscar.gatech.edu/pls/bprod/wwsktrna.P_find_location</a></p>

You can use it to compare various community colleges and other schools in terms of what courses are pre-approved for transfer credit.
