so..... what is the lowest gpa ppl have gotten in with...or applying with?
i mean... maybe they let people with low gpa in for fun? like as a "oh! haha! this person applied to OUR school? haha! how daring and ambitious and humourous? he/she's IN!" ... or something like that.... my gpa is cr-p but rest is chill...
how about if i have a low gpa but a very promising bank account...? no financial aid needed... im new to this and i'm seeing people go like "GPA: 4.3 unweighted, SAT:2390, EC- Pres. of Mathletes United (four years), National Pianist Association rank 2 blah blah blah" and they go " omg i kno, my gpa is mediocre but i'm hoping my blah blah with make up for it..."

plenty of people from my school (i'm international) have gotten in with 3.4+, so don't sweat it. as long as you can make up for it in other ways - test scores, essays, ec's, hooks (maybe summer research opportunites, etc?).

The problem with basing things on College Confidential is that most people who are on here are overachievers and are the cream of the crop at their schools, you're not seeing the whole pool of acceptees/applicants- many of whom aren't as accomplished. I can assure you- you don't need a 3.9 to gain an acceptance at CMU. There are other ways to look good on paper and stats, though very important, are not the sole determining factor. And no, I don't think they "go easier" on internationals; if anything I think it's tougher, esp. with aid, but it's definitely do-able.

I applied with a 3.52 UW GPA to CIT-EE and SCS and am praying for an acceptance. I have other great stuff to balance it out, but I have a feeling my grades are still gonna shoot it down.

With regards to your question "so do they go easier on internationals?"
you must realize that there is huge grade inflation in the US.

My school (international) has not produced a 4.0 students in 40 years...
a 3.8 GPA is in the top 1% haha. So No, admin is not going easy on internationals. I once posted my GPA (3.66) and many ppl on CC assumed i was in the bottom 45% percentile. That was a shocker!

Going back to your question any GPA over a 3.4 seems to be cool for CMU as long as there are others factors on your app.

Good luck everyone!

(and yes... CC is saturated with overachievers. Most 'normal' kids who come here and read stats get depressed and commit suppuku haha. )

wow, so do you go to HKIS? i'm from singapore. yeah on the same boat, i have a 3.6 and everyone here thinks it's the ****tiest gpa. hahahaha. i get so embarrassed posting stats on this thing.

ha yeah i'm in sas. i don't know what percentile i'm in exactly..they don't tell us that stuff. and they don't rank either. but i have a *****load of really smart people in my grade...so i'm not really cream of the crop. but i'd say top 15-20%ish. i could be wrong. my sat scores are a lot better than my gpa because of 4 years of slacking off. hahahaha. i like how you assume from my name that i am not a bookworm. i bet we know each other somehow. but i'm not going to say who i am on here haha. and no, i am most def not your typical CC overachiever. happened to stumble over this site and found it pretty useful...and depressing to see how many geniuses there are out there and how much of a reach all these schools should be to me :( how bout u? haha

hahah
well im not a bookworm. Over achiever... i try to be. =P. Firstly, a bookworm would not have babycakes as a name because.... it just is that way.

Kids in my school come here and like... want to kill themselves haha its actually really funny. Our councillors tells all parents and kids during college nights NOT to go to this website. So who do you know in my school?

hi guys...
i've got a 3.7, and I applied to HSS. on the site, they said the average last year was a 3.4 for HHS but a lot higher for the other programs. i plan to be in the writing program.
decisions are out? anyone know when they mailed them?
aaah, nervousness.
