lowest GPA

What is the lowest GPA you've heard get into top 30 schools or so?
Let's make it so the applicant is not an URM or legacy or any other hook.

a friend of mine made it into UNC Chapel Hill with a 3.3 unweighted gpa

dang, was he in-state?

no. he was georgian, but he did have a 2230 SAT, and decent clubs for extracurriculars

i also know of a student that got in with a 3.7 weighted to Emory but he was ukranian jewish…it’s still a mystery how he made it cuz his SATs were 1700’s

^^^If he was a recent immigrant, then it wasn’t such a low score. How would you like to take the SAT in Russian after being in the country for maybe 2 or 3 years?

For most schools, there is no supposed “minimum” GPA. I remember seeing someone with a 3.2 UW GPA who got into Michigan this or last year here on CC, but it is quite rare (and I don’t remember if she had a hook).

For the top 15, people have said to keep your GPA above a 3.7, but again people have gotten into those schools with lower GPAs. You just never know.

Really, you should just try your hardest and best in school while enjoying and making the most out of it, because that’s what really matters. You’re only in HS once in your life.

just wondering, yo.

Someone got into a top 10 school with about a 3.0 GPA. I’m beginning to believe that person had a hook, although they never mentioned anything nor was anything said about it.

Somebody got into CMU with a 3.791 W (which probably translates into a 3.2-3.3 UW considering the courseload at my school), a 28 ACT, and a 1300 (CR+M) / 1930 SAT I. Other than that, I can’t recall any other top 30 college admits with bad GPAs (conversely, we did have a recruited athlete get into Harvard with a 2090 SAT I and a 4.556 W GPA).

My brother got into Michigan with a 2.9 and a 25 on the ACT. However, this was in 2006.

I know someone who got into WUSTL who wasn’t ranked in the top 20% even and had no extracurriculars. not an urm, not a legacy, just lucky i guess
