whats the lowest scores (GPA/ SAT) that you have heard of someone getting into NYU with?

I just want to know how out of my league I really am.

Thanks!

i got in w/ 1.6 gpa and a 20act skore. go steeeeern. :)

-22 ACT
-3.0 GPA

Gotta be ECs or something?

Idealistic HOW DID U GET in ur my freaking HERO dude thats amazing are u serious or just BSing, did u have like extreme ECs

^^ I second that. We need to give you some kind of medal.

Judging by Idealistic32's other posts, they're making a joke. Sure, NYU takes a range of students, but the statistics Idealistic32 posted are still on the really low side. Even with great EC's, I think the adcom would wonder why such a student even bothered to apply to college since academics are clearly not their priority.

If you look at the undergraduate admissions' Fast Facts page, it clearly states the middle 50% of students scored 1310–1440 on the SAT (old-style score reporting), so that's the 25-75th percentile with a range of 130 points. I think subtracting half of that range from the bottom of the middle 50% range would be about the absolute bottom, so that's 1240-1250. Assuming students score equally well on all sections of the SAT, you're looking at a "absolute bottom" of about 620. (Hrm, I'm not really sure about my math there... if applicants' scores fall along a bell curve, then the "absolute bottom" could be significantly lower. Maybe even as low as 550. Regardless, this is just my speculation.)

If these guys aren't kidding, they must have had some sort of "hook". Nicesocks' claim seems a little more feasible than Idealistic32's.

Judging from the grammatical composition of Idealistic32's post: "i got in w/ 1.6 gpa and a 20act skore. go steeeeern.", I'm assuming he's being sarcastic:rolleyes:.

i have great EC's and a decent GPA... but my SATs are going to kiiillll me! I applied to Steinhardt and my mom is an alum... but still i dont think its enough. I wish that the 1.6 was serious lol

I would like to think that a 1.6 gpa could get me into NYU, but i am not an optimist at all. I figured that Idealistic32's admittance was a joke. I just wanted to play along sigh.

my sats are low too. hope my gpa offsets that

I highly doubt Idealistic32 was serious...and even if he/she somehow did get accepted with those stats, I wouldn't take it as an encouraging sign for other applicants. Their circumstances must've been highly exceptional...like their parents donating millions of dollars. Whatever it is, it's probably not something you could duplicate no matter how hard you try.

my friend got in with a ~1600/2400 on the SATs, but she plays a lot of sports, had a lot of ecs, and has taken a rigorous courseload

what did ur friend get into( which school)

I know a guy who got in (as a transfer) with a 3.5 out of high school 24 ACT and a 3.67 at his previous school (a tier III school). He goes to CAS.

If those were the lowest stats NYU took I'd cry. Those sound more like the lowest stats HYP might take...

And to add to the thread, my friend got in with an 86 average (unweighted, out of 100) with a downward trend from freshman year to GSP. She had no NYU connections (according to her) and is not a URM.

QNYergrl: Those stats sound ridiculously low for HYP, in my opinion. Barring some extraordinary circumstance (Olympic athlete, Broadway show, etc.), any application with those numbers is going to get tossed. For NYU, they're certainly acceptable after a year or two of good college work.

Is that 3.5 weighted or unweighted? Because a 3.5 UW GPA from high school doesn't seem "ridiculously" low to me... we had about 6 kids from my school get into NYU Stern with that GPA.

I think shades_children means that a 3.5 UW GPA is low for HYP (HYP= Harvard-Yale-Princeton), not NYU.

Oops! Sorry about that!

No prob. I always used to wonder what the "HYP" stood for too.
