What is the lowest SAT/ACT score of someone that has been accpeted into Duke? Considering that the person's GPA is high, courses are AP/honors, EC's are good, and they have won academic/athletic awards, but are no skilled enough to play college sports. Thanks!

Everyone applying to Duke (basically) has all of those other things, so they don't excuse weak scores. I know that someone got in with a 2090 and they were not a URM, legacy, or recruited athlete. That's the lowest I've heard of.

I have some friends who were in the 1200s without being minority/athlete/legacy/etc

1200s on the new scale???? thats like the 30th percentile

Someone from my school got in with something in the 1900s

hahaha i'm pretty sure godevils2011 was referring to the old scale.

even still, a 600 per category without a hook? that seems VERY unlikely.

What do you mean, without being URM? What do you think is considered a "good" score for a URM?

This gets more depressing by the minute! I have a 1910 with about a 700 in two categories and a 600 in math. What hook do you mean? I submitted artwork and I'm consistent in environmental/animal rights causes. Is that a hook?? Oh, I am stressed!

take the act. i have a friend who got a 1950ish on the sat, got waitlisted, took the act (and scored a lot higher) in the meantime and got in off the w/l.

Is the ACT easier than the SAT? What did he/she score on the ACT?

I'd imagine you would find a lot more humanities kids like that.

An 800CR, 510 Math, and 780 Writing would only equal a 2090 total, and a 1310 on the old scale, both below Duke's 25% threshold, but that could very well mean you're an awesome writer who has an anxiety attack whenever seeing a number.

So your essay might have been awesome enough to do the trick.

The Math/Science stud who can't read would have a much more difficult time, simply because his essay would, in all probability, not be very good.

I got into with a 2090 (no hooks, URM, etc.), but I also had a 33 on the ACT, so that's what they looked at.

Exactly, so that doesn't count. That's like a 2200 if you convert it.

Unfortunately, there isn't another ACT test until February. Duke advises students to complete all testing in Jan. I am taking two subject tests for them the 24th. If I make near perfect scores on those, will that look good? I'm taking the tests in my best subjects.

Good point, amadeuic. I'm the perfect example of that math/science stud- 780 math, but only 700 CR, and 720 Writing with an 8 on the essay.

I know a legacy, who had a family member in admissions office of Yale...
He got a 1480 on SAT's out of new scale...

and he got in ED...
and not only that, denied them

^^^^I don't believe that...

I believe that. Maybe english isn't his/her first language. So, maybe he/she got 800 for math and 680 for the 2 english sections. SAT is the last thing top universities usually see when reviewing the applications.

^^^^Roblan said the person got a 1480 out of the 2400 scale...

And if they're a legacy, they are probably a WASP, not an immigrant.
