Loyola chicago vs temple

I want to head into Pre- med. I’m a bio major.
Loyola is know to produce a lot of pre- med students
but
temple has a strong research program.
which one is better regardless of affordability.
I like both of them a lot, I just want to know which one will better set me up for success during med - school.

i assume you are looking at pre med threads too. i know Temple kids get into med schools but my son is not pre med so i can;t help you compare these 2 programs. for the kids that are in honors, Temple honors works with its premed students who ask for help to do proper prep, coursework, etc, to help them get into med school. i assume loyola does the same.

Hi Medkid18,

The best recommendation is to go to the school that is not only the best fit for you, but also is affordable. Unfortunately, I do not know anything about the science program at Loyola. I’m pretty sure they are excellent especially since they have medical school which supplements their science education. I can provide me two cents on Temple. Temple is home to some of most cited research in the world, but is also a large school. what does that mean to you as a premed? You will often have to take classes with 250-350 kids where the professor probably does not know you unless you work hard to develop a relationship during office hours. Many of these professors like at many top institution focus more on their research. Another key thing is that no one will hold your hand through the process. They will notify you about certain things and you will have to stay connected to the pre professional health office, but you will have to do it on your own. While I type this, I feel as though that I’m downplaying the education at Temple. Temple has tremendous faculty and I personally have taken professors that are leading their fields in innovative research and they also teach our classes. You will learn a lot and be expected to do a lot of work. But that is it any school that offers a rigorous science curriculum. While I do not know Loyola’s program, I assume that is has the same characteristics and the education of bio major is pretty standard besides the research. The key insight I can give you is, go to a school that you will be invested to learn.
