Loyola University Maryland Early Action Class of 2020

Hope the mail comes soon, but that email was extremely relieving! Congrats to everyone!

@CAMidwestMom I got my official acceptance in the mail yesterday. I live in Maryland which probably explains why I got mine so fast

I would love to hear more about people’s opinions of this school. As my screen name suggests, we live in the Midwest. Son applied to a lot of Jesuit schools. We visited quite a few and he really liked them. Loyola Maryland was slightly on our radar because a friend’s daughter goes there, but he didn’t decide to apply until he got an email from the school inviting him. We figured he loved all of the other Jesuit schools and wants to be in a big city, so this should be on the list.

If it is in serious contention, which depends on merit, we will visit for sure. But if anyone here has visited, I would love to hear your impressions. We’ve been to Baltimore ages ago and the big city environment is fine with him.

Hi @CAMidwestMom, we visited the school a couple of months ago. The campus itself is very nice and my son really liked everything about it especially the dorms. There is only one problem with the school but for me it is a big one: pretty bad surrounding neighborhood. For about 5 blocks in either direction of school it is a very nice neighborhood but beyond that isn’t great. That is making me against his going there but he really liked the school and wants to keep it on his list.

@CAMidwestMom I’m from NY and I visited the school back in October and fell in love with it. I loved the feeling of the campus and the location. I also visited and applied to a lot of the Jesuit schools. One of the things that made this school stand out to me was the location. I had heard mixed things about it but when I finally visited myself I realized that I can see myself living there for four years. I like how it isn’t in the middle of nowhere like some of the other schools I saw (University of Scranton). I really felt like there was a good sense of community throughout the campus. I also really like the core curriculum. Similar to you, it is definitely one of my top choices but the merit money has to come through.

@saintsmd what are your stats that got you the presidential scholarship?

@CAMidwestMom - feel free to PM me with questions about Loyola Maryland. D is a junior there and it has been a fantastic experience for her. It is true that, depending on how you approach campus there are some very rough neighborhoods, but kids are informed and quickly catch on to areas to stay away from. D has definitely taken advantage of all Baltimore has to offer. It did get a little unnerving during the riots last year, but the school did a great job of keeping kids on campus and keeping parents informed.

Congrats to all accepted!

@InigoMontoya Thanks! I went to USC back in the 80’s in south central Los Angeles, so I am of the mind that as long as you are sensible, you will probably not be in any more danger than most people on any given day. His letter is on the way, so maybe tomorrow!
