Both are great schools but still having a tough time choosing. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Gigi,

S decided on Loyola…I think when it came to his gut that was his first choice, he really loved being there.

This choice was made contrary to my husbands opinion though, so things aren’t exactly copacetic in our house right now. H never even saw Loyola and thinks PC is a better school.

Oh well, S is happy and I’m happy for him!

Your husband needs to see Loyola, he will change his mind.

D was accepted but we still have a problem with them charging $20,000 more (over 4 years) than last year’s class. Class of 2013 tuition is frozen but Class of 2014 will be paying $5,000 more per year. When I spoke with the head of admission he explained that in order to be perceived as competitive, PC had to raise tuition to the level of BC and HC.
However, PC is not in the same category as those schools. Providence used to be a great value, but not any longer. Also, offered no financial aid even though we will have 2 kids in very expensive private colleges. I don’t know what Loyola’s tuition is, but I’m guessing it’s a better value.

“head of admission he explained that in order to be perceived as competitive, PC had to raise tuition to the level of BC and HC”

That make absolutely no sense. If a school is cheaper more students will try to go there. University of Maryland college park and university of Delaware are applied by the same students. The main difference between them is the price. Sometimes picking the cheapest is the smartest thing to do.

Anyway Loyola has good aid. As long as the school wants you, they’ll give the amount you need.

Suz, where is D going?

Loyola is expensive, about the same as PC, but neither is in the same class as BC.

If you really want to get upset, think about the fact that Yale is a relative bargain at 48K.

D is going to Providence. Fell in love with it and it was over even though she received scholararships and grants from comparable schools.

Re tuition hike at PC – I’ll bet they took a bath in their portfolio.
