LSA Honors or CoE

I am going to apply U of Mich next year, but I was wondering what is the difference between LSA Honors and College of Engineering I know housing in LSA is South Quad. What about CoE?

Which is best suited for me LSA Honors or CoE? I plan on pursuing computer science.

What are the average requirements for each college?

Also what is the job outlook for someone graduating with a comp sic degree from Michigan? I wanna work for companies like Microsoft and Apple as a Software Engineer.

I meant sci not sic!!!

If you do well in school, you’ll have a very, very good chance at making it at these companies.

I graduated with an EE degree in the spring; I work for one of those two companies right now. My best friend (and lab partner) in EECS is working at the other.

I’m in almost the exact same situation you may/will be in (LSA honors, CS major). First, you’re not guaranteed South Quad (I was in Couzens), though it is likely. In terms of the CS major in LSA vs COE, there is almost no difference, except for a few early requirements (which are really easy overall anyway, so they don’t matter - engin 101 etc). Your tuition will be the same once you declare.

The job outlook is excellent if you’re good, in terms of both money and opportunities. Don’t know of any other major that has been offered more compensation (I’m a senior). However, the big 4-5 companies (Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc.) don’t offer the most, if you care at all about that.

If you want to work for companies like Microsoft, Google, Apple, Intel, Cisco or Oracle, Michigan is the place for you! They all recruit heavily on campus.

Personally, I would recommend applying to the CoE, assuming you have the grades (at least a 3.7 unweighed GPA, but preferably over 3.8) and the scores (over 2000 on the SAT with at least a 700 on the Mathematics section, but preferably over a 2100).

i totally helps if you’re American Indian as well…
