Yes, my Alma mater. Thx.
Thanks.
Admissions officer said the last week in March so hoping to hear this week. Worried that no news yet is not a good sign. I heard they had a lot of applications this year.
My daughter is a Florida junior, her UW core gpa is a 4.0. Her weighted is 4.4. She has AP and Honors. Her SAT was terrible and unfortunately none of the public schools in Florida are test optional. She is going to work on her score, but we are looking OOS for TO schools. She really wants the four year, campus, sporting events and school spirit experience. I was told LSU gives some decent merit aid. I’d be thrilled if she went there, but finances will be a factor. Does the school publish their stats for merit aid somewhere? I’m trying to figure out if it’s out of our budget or if we should put it in our list.
Also, do they look at core gpa, cumulative, weighted? Each school seems different. TIA for your help. Congrats to all of you and your kids!
Hi there.
My daughter is a freshman. We live OOS and we didn’t get much aid. Not sure why. She was a top student, great SAT scores, tons of HS extras. But sent out daughter anyway as it was her #1.
She will tell you going was the best decision she ever made. Even with the pandemic she is having a ball!!! Loving her classes and friends.
I can only tell you Fall 2021 should be even better.
I’m OOS and got the exact amount of aid that the scholarship estimator said I’d get so definitely give the scholarship calculator a go - dunno if it can be used for TO applicants though.
($19k/yr, 4.0 UW GPA, 1420 SAT if it helps)
I believe that your D shall be awarded at least something called “out-of-state tuition waiver” scholarship. Also please let her try ACT test. Maybe she can get a better score than SAT. My D got 34 ACT but SAT only 1460.
i applied to LSU october 24th and its been 6 months. it’s a rolling admissions process and i’m getting worried. yes i have called and yes i am sure everything is submitted properly. any advice?
That is odd. Are you missing any items in the portal? Does LSU admissions confirm that they have received everything to make a decision? Have the high school resend transcripts. You never know. It might trigger something in the file and get it moving.
they have everything and i have called multiple times. i might ask my counselor to send again. thanks!
We will withdraw LSU admission next week. Good luck every one.
Has anyone heard anything about need based aid yet?
My D was admitted last Nov, but need-base is still not shown up yet.
So just wanted to share our experience. My son has a 4.1 weighted GPA and a 1390 on SATs with many AP courses. Applied mechanical engineering. He submitted application on 10/22 and never hear anything. I called twice and was told he would be notified end of March. I emailed admission counselor and got no reply. I called admissions again today and told them I wanted a refund of his application fee since you could not even give him an answer, admit or deny just let him know. They finally put me in touch with a different admission counselor and within an hour he got a letter of acceptance. They had the wrong GPA on application but had the correct on his transcripts. If LSU is your first choice, don’t give up. Pester them until they let you know decision.
Nice job!
The complete financial aid package eventually showed up yesterday. This package shows a total amount of $33595 which matches LSU published COA for in-state. However, among $33595, there are $20780 loans suggested by LSU. Also TOPS is $8263 while student work is $1550. Therefore, in another words, the pure scholarship from LSU is only $5000/year. It is truly hard to believe that ACT 34 + weighted GPA 4.6 only get $5000.
I would have brain damage to accept 83K loan as a burden when D finishes LSU in 4 years.
@FeiXing I agree with you completely. Doesn’t any sense whatsoever with those stats to be paying that much for LSU or most colleges. I get the Ivies or top private schools where all the kids are pretty much equal academically. Can’t give everyone merit at those places.
My son was named a high alternate for presidential. No chance for stamps. So we’re just waiting to see if he moves up. If not we’ll be in the same boat. In that case he’s going to La. Tech and then off grad school hopefully with no undergraduate debt.
This is the issue with these big schools - the lack of “human” touch. To me, this is reason to go elsewhere - seriously. You will simply be a #.
My son and a few of his friends applied in the fall and still have not heard back as well. At this point they are losing enthusiasm and starting to commit elsewhere. It seems like close to 4.0 level students hear back quickly while others wait 5-6 months. We were also told last week in March. We are ready to move on.
If you have other options, you should be - if they treat you like this now…then what later.
It’s the problem with large schools in general - they don’t seem interested in customer satisfaction - unfortunately - as we may end up at one.
