I've been accepted to both LSU and UGA, as well as their honors programs. LSU has offered me a $13,000 a year scholarship, which will leave me paying $3,000 in remaining tuition and fees in addition to about $10,000 for room and board. I am a resident of Georgia and my grades qualify me for the HOPE scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition completely. I will be left paying for room and board.

What are the reputations as well as the pros/cons for each of these schools? I'm planning to major in public relations. Which school would offer me more, in your opinion?

UGA’s got a stronger reputation as well as one of the top Honors programs in the country. Why would you consider LSU over UGA, even if the costs were equal? Is there a particular appeal for you to the university or the state of LA?

My high school is one of the “feeder schools” to UGA, so I know alot of people there. As helpful as that would be in many different ways, I would much rather step out of my comfort zone and have to do things on my own for once in my life. Athens is only about an hour and a half from my hometown, which is really convenient. But comparatively, I liked Baton Rouge and LSU so much more than I liked Athens and UGA. My parents are ultimately leaving the decision up to me since the difference in price between the two is not too much. My sister was in UGA’s Honors and I know that it’s really good, but I can’t decide if having a brand new start in a different place with a different culture and different people is worth missing out on the perks of UGA Honors that LSU Honors may not have.

Since UGA is cheaper, it’s really a no-brainer. I doubt LSU is going to offer something better than what UGA can. Besides, you’d have the added travel hassle to deal with.
