I’ve been trying to decide between UA and UGA for a while. I was leaning towards UGA until I learned that I would know no other guys going and it’s starting to become a little late to find a roommate. I was admitted into both honors programs, and Including tuition, fees, rooming, and a meal plan, UA would be about 20k less per year than UGA. I want to join a fraternity and be really social but also focus on school. I was hoping to get a little advice from anyone who experienced a similar situation. Thanks
$80k difference over 4 years. That’s an obvious choice to me.
I have a student at each. Assuming both have your major, and you can get to both easily (one is not in your backyard), then I would recommend UA. UA Honors is active, classes are challenging, and programs are robust. There are tons of leadership opportunities, and plenty to do. You will have “big football” at either school. UGA is not worth an additional $20K a year. (And I am alumni!) You can be in a fraternity and focus on school at either school, just takes discipline. Save the $80K in four years and pay for grad school. Both schools are very expensive for fraternities and sororities.
Agree with the above. Unless your parents are wealthy and money can be wasted, it’s silly to pay $80k more per year for UGa.
You’re OOS for both, but you got the Presidential (free tuition) at Bama. There are a LOT more OOS students at Bama. Very few OOS students at UGA. That alone would settle things along with the huge cost difference.
I disagree. Having had 2 kids in Honors at UGA, both had lots of friends that were OOS. You also have plenty of time to find a room mate. Look for a UGA honors 2020 facebook group. My d2 found a great room mate that way.
But, 20K per year is a huge difference. You could study abroad / participate in some great summer programs with the difference and still have money left over.
UGA is approximately 89% in state students. HOPE keeps many students in Georgia.
