LSU vs. Texas A&M for ChemE

Hello CC,

I need your help in deciding between LSU and TAMU. I'm in position to receive the Alumni Scholarship to LSU, which will give me a full ride plus a professor as an adviser for all 4 years. As a National Merit Scholar, my cost of attendance at TAMU will be no more than ~$10,000. However, LSU's ChemE program has a lower rank than TAMU's (LSU is ~60, TAMU is ~30), and TAMU spends way more on research and has a MUCH larger engineering college.

So, CC, which is the better package? I am honestly unsure if TAMU's size will help me or hurt me. I fear that among hundreds of ChemE UG's at TAMU, I will be unable to stand out and gain research or internship opportunities; at LSU, I will be one of the top 10 incoming freshmen, so I feel I might be able to do more meaningful work to build up my resume. Though to a small extent I wish to stay in state, I will happily go to TAMU if their engineering program will benefit me notably more than LSU's.

Will TAMU give me better job opportunities? My high school guidance counselor tells me that TAMU has a strong network of alumni and corporate connections. At LSU, however, I will graduate with very high distinction. Which college will set me on a better path towards success?

Thanks for your advice and opinions,
Matt
