I am a student from Canada who is hoping to pursue a career in Petroleum engineer. I got accepted into a LSU and Texas A&M provided me with the option to go through TAMU Galveston enter to a major program instead. I really want to attend A&M but I feel like the Galveston route would not get me the full experience of college. To be honest I have no idea what to do.
I am in the exact same situation as you. I was offered either choose another major, Galveston, or blinn Bryan for eventual transfer to the full college. What I am doing is I am going to LSU for PETE so I don’t pay the huge cost of tamu and so I can screw up and not be stuck in a major I don’t like. If I do great at LSU and still really want to go to Texas I will transfer to a&m.
Wow, that’s a tough one, because you can’t beat TAMU for engineering, for job placement, for connections. I do know people that have gone through the Blinn route and done well. Galveston, I love, but I am a marine science person. Naval engineering is a fantastic field and very prosperous, if you can get into that with the Galveston to TAMU route. But LSU will get you internships and jobs in the petro field, and chances are, you’ll wind up in Houston/Texas for your job anyway, so it might be better to get the guarantee LSU petro major.
