LSU weighted gpa calculation

Anyone know how to calculate the weighted gpa that LSU uses to determine scholarship qualifications? I see this:

"A six-semester, weighted high-school GPA. The GPA used for scholarship consideration is calculated based on the core courses required for admission to LSU. Please note this GPA may differ from the GPA listed on the high-school transcript. The GPA is weighted meaning additional weight is given to courses designated as Honors, AP, or IB."

So, would high school course staken in middle school NOT count? That would really help my son's average since he had 2 B's in 8th grade. They are on his HS transcript, but NOT in the last 6 semesters.

It doesn’t sound like LSU would count these on their weighted GPA. I’m not sure if this is the case at your son’s school, but at my school the 8th grade “high school” classes show up on the transcript, but don’t actually count towards the school’s GPA. Good luck to your son.

My son emailed one of the admissions reps asking this same questions. This was the response he received:

“We do count Algebra I taken in the 8th grade as part of your core requirement. We recognize that some outstanding students such as yourself are in accelerated programs and take Algebra I early. When we load all your coursework into your profile – your core gpa will include all the Math courses – including that 8th grade Algebra.”
