Because our basketball team lost?!

One of the biggest reasons I applied was cuz of Duke bball. Now that their future isn't looking too bright, Michigan or Penn State football is looking better.

As a Duke student, I'm shocked by how anyone can base his dedication to a team on whether or not he thinks the team will win. No matter who's on our team next year (which, even without McRoberts, includes Paulus, DeMarc, possibly Dave McClure, Pocius, and a number of talented recruits) or how successful we are/aren't, I have no doubt that the Duke student body will be just as Crazie about basketball as we are now. I can say with 100% certainty that I will not be alone in my long, cold waits outside of Cameron, there will still be people clamoring to tent in K-Ville, the bleachers of Cameron will still be packed full of painted, screaming, sweaty students, and everyone here will still love and adore our basketball team.

I know that as a Duke student and a certified Cameron Crazie, I don't want anyone standing next to me in Cameron, sleeping in my tent, or claiming to be a "fan" if he only wants to be here when we're winning. That's not fandom. I'm sorry for the rant, but our boys deserve better than that.

^^ agreed.. i'm obsessed with march madness but even though they lost i still REALLY hope i get into duke.. i'm sooo nervous :-/

Sorry, but I think you slightly misunderstood me. I love Duke, and I always will, win or lose; don't get me wrong. However, I love Michigan football and Penn State football just as much. Both those teams just seem to have a brighter future than Duke in the next four years. Really, I do love Duke unconditionally. My high school football team has won a total of 17 games in the four years I've been here. Yet, I still get painted and cheer them on every friday night.

This loss was disappointing, but the fact is that this duke team wasn't very explosive. They had no one like jason williams who could take over games and set the pace of the game. Hopefully next year we get a nice tandem, we got a 7 foot 2 center coming in, we got a guy who scored 21 points in 1 min 30 seconds coming in, and we have gerald henderson, son of a former nba player. Next year isnt going to be a championship year (hell, maybe pull a syracuse), but we are in no trouble.

Interesting fact i read in the ATL paper, Duke has 19 (9 straight) sweet sixteens, 14 final fours (WOW), but we have lost 4 times in the sweet 16 in 6 years. Goes to show that we are always in there, in a game where parity is widespread, is preety damn good.
