Lupton room configurations

I'm an incoming freshman staying at Lupton this fall with a few questions about how the rooms are set up.

Desk
- Are there a file drawers in the desks?
- Is there a shelf above each desk? either attached to the desk or the wall itself...

Closet
- Is there storage above the closets, as in cabinets or a nook? Or do the closets extend all the way to the ceiling?
- What is storage like in the closets? Are there shelves? hanging rods?

Washing machines
- Are they front or top-load?

Also, I know there is one set of shelves attached to the window wall, but is the second set attached to the door wall or the non-closet wall?

Thanks so much for any help!

let me see if i can help, since my S lived in lupton last year: I don't know if you're m or F, and i imagine that girls find it much more difficult to fit all their clothes!

There was only one set of shelves, next to the window in his room--it was over my S's bed, but he and his roommate shared them. They had to remove the lowest shelf so he wouldn't hit his head when he got up in the morning.

The closets are very large, with some space on top to stow items you won't need. There is also one shelf in the closet itself. There is a long hanging rod--we hung a portable sweater-type shelves (they come folded up in a package at bed bath and beyond, for example) on one side so he could stick in sweatshirts, hats etc. as he had very little to hang. Plenty of room on the bottom to store a few boxes, shoes etc.

There was one large built in dresser between the two closets--each roommate gets about 2-3 very long drawers, but they aren't very deep. He fit all his clothes though. Girls I'm sure would have a lot more problems.

My S tells me the washing machines are top loading.

Thanks so much for your help! and to make things more clear I am male :).

Wow, all I need now is desk info! Anybody else help?

i didnt live in lupton but of course i spent a lot of time there last year. im pretty sure the desks just have a drawer for pencils and such, no big file drawers. i dont remember there being shelves above the desk either, but then again its been close to 4 months since Ive been in a lupton room. Definately ask your VUceptor, he/she will be happy to answer any questions!

You can also contact the Housing and Residential Life department. They were very helpful last year in giving specifics of what is provided in the rooms, furniture, approximate measurements, etc.

Picture is small and I’m sure you already looked at it, but for reference:

Desk is utilitarian with a drawer for pencils, as cited by country09.

On the left side of the photo is a built-in that has two closets and a dresser in between. The main mass of each closet is two sliding wooden doors. There is plenty of storage and hanging space inside the closet and each individually lockable and they are both the same size. There is extra storage space above and within, if I remember correctly. The major area of the closet is a hanging rod but there are separate spaces and you have plenty or room for a hamper inside as well. Between the closets is a built-in dresser that is a little less than chest high. The dresser is topped with a counter top and backed by a large mirror. This counter is wide and deep enough that many people put fridges and microwaves and even music stuff up there too with plenty of space left over to still use the mirror.

I remember shelves on both sides of the room. The door and window sides of the room are opposite each other see picture.

Bring plenty of plug strips, etc. Outlets are scarce.

S lived in Lupton freshman year and D was in Stapleton last year with the same configuration. In both rooms, there were only shelves on one side of the room (window side). Last year D's roommate bought some tracking and adjustable shelves at West End Hardware to hang from the hanging strip that goes across the long wall of the room (they reconfigured the room by that time). BTW, when I was in Nashville in May for graduation, it appeared West End Hardware had closed. Anyone know if they closed for good or just moved?

im pretty sure they closed for good. i remember walking there to get some spray paint during april and it was closed, and apparently the next thing to close is (actually its probably shut down by now) Vandyland, which was next door.
