M. Arch I Average GPA

I'm currently a junior in undergrad, graduating June 2013.

My overall GPA is below a 3.5 and I'm concerned that it will hurt my chances at getting accepted into UCLA's M.Arch I program. By the time I apply for grad school (next fall), my GPA will still fall short of a 3.5 (~3.4). My major GPA, however, is currently at 3.5.

I was wondering if any of you knew of people who got accepted with a not-so-great GPA. I'm not sure how competitive the program is.

I've heard that the portfolio is the main focus but how badly would GPA hurt your chances if the portfolio is 'average'?
