M&T Summer Program (Help your chances?)

Hey yall,

Does the M&T Summer Program have any influence on your application to Penn, Wharton, SEAS, or M&T itself.

Also, if there are any people in the M&T program can you discuss what you think helped you in high school and if you applied RD and ED.

Thanks dudes.

I'm sure it helps if you do well because you are proving to Penn that you can do well in their programs

went to the biomed research program, took an econ class, and worked in a lab for the department of biology and got deferred. (over the course of two summers)

my friend who got into M&TSI was in DIRECT CONTACT with the admissions officer during his stay.

he got into M&T ed.

jcll2002: i also got deferred m&T. did u get deferred this year? or 2002 lol?

M&TSI has no bearing on admission. It's meant to be for your own benefit. It exposes you to M&T, and so it's a way for you to see if you truly want to get into a mix of both business and engineering, since most high school students may have incorrect preconceived notions of both/either. Similarly, you may wind up finding that you only prefer one side of it to the other, etc.

EDIT: I just want to make it clear that I am not an M&T student, but rather a senior in Wharton, but I am fairly certain that getting into M&TSI with a hope that it will boost your chances is going to be a lost cause. Think of M&TSI as more of an investment in early exposure to potential educational/program/career paths, for your own benefit. Just because you got into M&T and happened to attend M&TSI doesn't necessarily mean the program gives you a boost. The M&T pools, standalone, are fairly small, and so the entire process with respect to M&T is somewhat self-selective.

There are a few M&T students who browse this board, so if I am wrong about any of this, I am sure they'll clear it up.

I got deferred from M&T and did not attaend the camp, but I disagree with you.
If you went to M&TSI and applied to M&T, it shows:
a) you know what your getting into and you know for sure you like it. If you didnt like it, you would know after M&TSI and u wouldnt apply M&T, so it shows solid interest and support for that interest.
b) it shows u can handle the joint nature of the program
c) it shows that yo like it and thats why ur coming back.... ur passionate about biz and tech

legendofmax hits it dead on. I've spoken with Lea about this several times, I've helped out with M&TSI, and I've come to the same conclusion.

Attending M&TSI won't get you anything from Penn. It gives you an opportunity to learn more about Penn, about studying business and engineering, and about yourself. There are other places to learn these same things. It does not help demonstrate passion, and it does not help demonstrate interest - those are things that they will evaluate your entire high school experience to find.

im just saying that if you're coming back it shows your not going in blindly and they want to know you really want it..
is lea back?

i was deferred LSM this year
